600m continuous use?

Thread Starter
I've just ordered a new Dell 600M as a desktop replacement for home use. I plan to have the notebook plugged into AC 24 hours per day and will have it on and running virtually all the time. Only on rare occasions will I disconnect and run on battery. Having read over the info about battery charging at the Dell website it appears that the battery once fully charged, will stop charging and never overcharge. Is my assumption correct? ... and can I just keep the battery in the unit and operate nearly full time on AC without ever worrying about overcharging? Thanks in advance

Yes, you can keep the battery in all the time. I have the same system and do the same thing. The internal circutry prevents overcharging. When the battery is almost full, you can actually hear it working - just listen to the soft beeps To bad however that there is no way to manually tell the system to stop charging the battery whenever the ac is plugged in.

I would definitely take the battery out. What will happen is the battery will charge to 100% and then over time it will lose some of its charge and will start charging again. Over and over again. Slow discharge and charge up. You might as well just take it out, its really easy and quick to do.

That will only happen if the battery hasn't been used for a while and you unplug and reinsert the ac power (with the computer turned off, not running on the battery.). But I read somewhere that it is good for the LiON battery to be charged up like that.

hmm...nice post....
i pull out my battery when i plan to leave my machine on for a long time, but normally i leave the battery connected.

since you guys are using the 600m

i got a question:

i recenty got my 600m...any overheating problems?
my machine heats up really bad when i play "TANTRA" it's an online heavy on 3D game.
No slowdowns whatsoever, but when you touch the la[patop underneath it's so very hot.

I guess i should buy a cooler for this one, but if i don't will it be bad to the 600m system?
