256MB RAM incresed to 384MB noticeable in the I9200?

Thread Starter
I have a stack of old notebooks, and if I"m lucky, one of the RAM modules might be 333MHz. But I know that I don't have anything bigger than a 128MB module.
Should I even bother installing it into my new bare-bones I9200 that currently has 256MB RAM?
It might be a while before I upgrade the RAM. I'm going for the whole enchialata, -2 Gigs, but I want to wait for prices to come down a bit.
(Plus my wife said "No.". <whip-crack sound><kitty cat icon> )

Just wondering if 128Megs'll make any real difference.

well, i dont think there will be any noticeable difference, but more RAM always helps.

Well if you onlt have 256 now you obviously arent doing much anyways. I wouldnt bother.

my brother's crap desktop only had 128 in it. we found another 64mb chip and stuck it in there, and it definitely helped some. i think it's worth it, every little bit helps. you definitely have to add a lot more to see a big difference though.

It's not that big difference at all but I suggest you still use it. I agree that every bit DOES help.

Actually, another 128MB will probably make a big difference. Assuming you're running XP, the footprint of that OS is around 200MB, and bigger if you haven't uninstalled all the crap Dell put on the computer. 384MB is probably the minimum you should use with XP. 256MB should be fine if you install Win2K.

But, if you're pulling 128MB out of old lappies, the chances that any of them being 200-pins is low, and the chances of them being PC2700 are even lower.

its still possible... and besides, if you happen to find a 2100.. give it a try, it MIGHT work

It will make a BIG difference especially since your only useing 256 MBs. You are increasing your Ram by 50%, just make sure the Dimms run at the same clock speed
