Is my hard drive dead????

Could someone help me out here...I am trying to figure out if my hard drive is dead. When I try to boot up it tells me that a file is missing or corrupt and to try and repair it in the recovery module. But when I go to the recovery module, it can only find my card reader and my cd drive. the computer doesn't seem to detect my hard drive.

I read someplace that the bios shows if it is actually detecting the drive but i'm not sure where it says that, maybe i'm just blind and am missing it.

any help/thoughts for me would be apprieciated.

thanks

Might help to provide your configuration and the age of the unit.

Most likely it's Windows messed up. If it was hardware you would get error no operating system found or can't read from drive C

My computer is a 8790 that I bought last March. It is a 60 gig hard drive. Running windows XP pro.

And it can't read from the hard drive...it gives me a C prompt in the recovery module, but it also has D:,E,F which I thought was the card reader.

thanks again for the help

I tried to disable the card reader, and when I do that it wont let me either go into the recovery module, or reinstall windows. It tells me that there is no hard drive so I can't do it.

Have taken the HHD out and back in to see if the connection came loose.

I have tried taking it out and putting it back in, actually, I first took it out and put it in the 2nd hard drive spot and tried that, then put it back where it was orignally. But it still didn't make a difference.

I'd suspect that your HDD did in fact die. If you disable the 7-in-1 reader and try to reinstall and Windows can not find teh HDD, that is very telling that the unit has died.

RMA time.
