External moniter with s360

Thread Starter
Been thinking about getting the DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide-angle to accompany my s360 when using it at home. I should have no problems at all doing this right? For some reason I remember reading somewhere that using an external monitor the max resolution I could get on it would be 1280x800…is this true? Hopefully not since the max resolution on the monitor is 1680x1050 Pixels

You'll be able to run the monitor in its native resolution as long as your video card supports 1680x1050. Should be ok.

S360 with 1600x1200

I recently was worried about the same thing. I bought a EN-2028 because it has such a high resolution/ fast refresh rate for an LCD... then I started wondering while it was in the mail, "Wait, will this even work?". I started searching to find the max external resolution on a sony s360. The only sites I found were ones telling me that the max exteral was the same as the max internal (1200x800). And I found this to be the case when I plugged in my new monitor, until I disabled the quick resolution feature in the options tab in the advanced monitor settings. Then everything worked a O.K.

should work

Hi

it depends what kind of view your are using.
In clone modus (same desktop size shown as on the Vaio) the max. resolution is the notebooks native display resolution, 1280x800. If you use the extended modus then you can use different resolutions on both displays, ie 1280x800 on the notebook and a higher or lower one on the external monitor. The limit is set by the graphic card. My S3 has got a Nvidia Geforce6200go and support upto 2048x1534, it also support WSXGA+ (1680x1050) or UXGA (1600x1200).
You can change this settings in the display property settings (right-click on empty desktop).

hth,

the s360 with the ati9700 will support upto 2048x1350 or 1250 dont remember for sure. I just got the dell 2405fpw on friday. it runs at 1920x1200 with no setup at all(just hit Fn+monitor key) however your going to have tro install a modded version of the driver like dna/omega because the stock sony/ati drivers dont seem to support that resolution(1650x1050)

lostbob,

I'm seriously considering the 2405FPW, and i have a S360 w/ the 9700.
I plan on getting the docking station to get the DVI connector.

I see you got this a few weeks ago by now, How has it been working for you?

Were there any setup issues at all? I currently have a 24" sony widescreen CRT at work, and the I'm running 1900x1200 on it via the VGA connector but only being able to push it at 60hz is flicker city. Also the CRT wont properly adjust to fill the screen either. I thought that the card was running a lower res and only claiming to be 1900x1200 in the display settings. However some photoshop image sizing let be determine that is is running 1900x1200 over the VGA port and using the laptops LCD as the second monitor. So I was save in assuming that mobility 9700 could run 1900x1200, plus the 1280x800 lcd at the same time it seems.

Thanks

Its been the best thing thats happen to me, but i wish i had the docking station. Every time i get home i need to hook up the vga/audio/usb/power. The VGA(d-sub) is not the best quality but i bet the dvi port will give a much better picture.

If you leave the drivers alone and hit the Fn+F7 keys no problems at all(its all auto), but you may have to play around with the video overlay so that movies show up on the 24incher. Games are awesome @ 1280x800 on it too(slight fuss but its not as bad as other LCDs running none native resolutions
if you want to run both screens it will either be at 1900x1200 on both with the vaios screen being scrolled or both at 1280x800, you can't have 1900x1200 and 1280x800 at the same time or atleast i haven't figured it out

S360 with Dell 2001FPW via Docking Station

I have a problem with connecting my S360 to Dell 2001FPW wide aspect ratio LCD monitor via the Sony docking station. The image seems to be elongated (horizationally) on the external LCD.

Does someone have the same problem? Or did I do anything wrong? Can someone help me with the right procedures to connect a wide external LCD to S360 (ATI 9700)?

Thanks a lot in advance.
