Compaq 2110US Freezing

Thread Starter
I have a Compaq 2110US Notebook (Athlon XP-M 2000+ 1.67GHz 266MHz, 512MB [2x256] DDR2100, 60GB HD, ATi Radeon Mobility IGP 64MB Shared) and it keeps freezing when running on battery. I have found that the bulk of the freezes occur when trying to browse the web via IE. Freezes occur using either the built-in 10/100 Ethernet or a D-Link Wireless card. Spyware/Viruses are ruled out because I have tried fresh installs of XP Home SP1, XP Home SP2, XP Pro SP1, and XP Pro SP2 all with the same results over the past year. Laptop runs flawlessly while connected to AC power, but the longest I can go on battery without freezing is 10 mins. Laptop totally locks and requires a cold reboot. Any ideas on what could be causing this? I've upgraded the BIOS to the latest version but this issue was not listed in any of the BIOS fixes.

I had the same problem with my hp for months (xp-m2500+, 512mb ram, 64mb shared video) turned out it was the wireless card driver on mine. I still can't run the newest drivers for my wireless card (orinoco abg silver) because they crash my laptop, I'm stuck running drivers over a year old, os hasn't mattered, sp1 or 2, home or pro, same result. hard lock ups

In the device mange ->wireless adapter -> Power management
Uncheck the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

Has worked for me before.
