Desparately seeking advice

I have narrowed it down to these 2 models. The JC1 is discontinued and the RG1 is $100 cheaper (I am in Canada). Won't need super mobility for travelling or gaming. I am looking for a desktop replacement notebook that I can take around the house. I do lot of website stuff, photoshop, dreamweaver, go live, and want to get into MiniDV stuff. I know a decent desktop would blow these models away but I am looking to move the notebook around the house. Any advice and info would be greatly appreciated. Note the typo on the following, both machinese have the ATI 9700, confirmed by the sales rep and Toshiba.ca.

any price range? if your budget is big, Id recommend the AW Area-51m 7700 or the MJ12-7700

My price range is $2K CDN. I have actually narrowed it down to only the 2 toshiba's.

Come on, all these views and 1 reply. There are a bunch of experts here, at least in the dell forum when I was looking for a dell. Feel free to chime in on the specs! Any input welcome!

Well they're almost identical. I guess the RG-1 would perform better due to the extra cace on the processor, but then it has 20gb less on the HD. I say go with the cheaper RG-1 as it also has the memory card reader (may or may not be useful) and the wireless a/g card, although that could be a typo as well. If storage is more important to you then go with the JCI.

Honestly the systems are so close I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to notice much of a difference between them.

look at the differences and ask yourself, is the 100 bux worth it. do u need that extra 20gig, 5 in 1 card reader, and a trubrite screen and the extra 0.14ghz cpu? its a pretty simple choice to make actually.

i wld personally go for the jc1 bcoz of the screen.

Thanks for the replies. I think the extra 20 gig would be good jus tin case I dump lots of MiniDV. But on the other hand, if I save $100, wouldn't that (plus a little) buy a nice firewire external HD?

I will also call toshiba tomorrow to see if the RG-1 comes with the trubrite screen. I don't see why it wouldn't, it's the newer model (albeit a lower version of the JC1). Just wanted to double check on the typo's as the RG-1 is too new and not on their site yet.

Thanks again!
