If damage to the notebook can be tied to your upgrade it will void you warranty. Sager(or the warranty company chosen for extended warranties) is the final word in determining whether damage was caused by the end user. There is no end user support for products added after point of sale and adding such products may limit the support you receive for issues with that product.

FYI; If anyone wants to know how the NX/XD (Execute Disable) bit technology helps against virus protection... Basically, it disables memory outside the scope of the operating system, or in case of SP2... it the gives the capability to segregate the memory's access through the processor.

is pctorque already shipping the 6xx series? or when will it start to ship? on sager's official website, they have yet to list its availability.

I already have the 570J, 3.8 and it 90% of the benchmarks, it wallops the 64-bit 3.6 so I think I'll wait until they come out with a 3.8ghz 64 bit chip then buy it and sell this current 32 bit one to someone. ^_^

Luke are you checking your mail? Trying to change my order to upgrade to the 660
post #28 of 60
LOL....just realized that all these companies are gonna have a hell of a time finding drivers to put on their support page for XP64! this 64bit Raid drivers are going to be a pain to get a hold of!

Info on the 6xx series cpu is at this site:

"The 600-series processors, and even the new P4 3.73GHz Extreme Edition, are relatively more efficient under load—despite the fact that they're packing another 1MB of L2 cache. "
What's everyone so excited about? After reading this article, it really doesn't seem worth it to spend en extra $145. I'm going to stick with my 550 and maybe I'll upgrade in a few months when the price drops.

MS has released the Bata XP Pro X64 for download.

Looks like a lot of people are upgrading. So if someone who placed an order before me is changing to get the new pentium, will that push my order back further?

I agree so far these processors are not better than their 5xx counterparts. I am going to wait a little bit. Do we know if these processors will be available on the future 7620?
the 6xx series is not going to have a huge difference in xp32. it wil only be the 2mb L2 that makes a slight difference in performance. it is the EM64T that makes this worth getting. the EM64T enables you to install XP64 and evetually windows longhorn. on xbitlabs it shows that xp64 is much faster than xp32. the difference is 5xx = 32bit technology that is being phazed out/outdated while the 6xx seres= 32bit with 64 bit extensions (same as amd64) and is thus the new way of processors. 64bit is here and xp64 should be out very soon (march). it is rc2 right now and the finishing touches are being put on before RTM.

The 64 bit doesn't really matter that much on the new 6xx series....BECAUSE you can download the update for the bios to enable it on the 5xx series now...so the only thing your getting with the new 6xx series would be the virus proctection and 2mb cache, which doesn't even really make a difference...

They aren't now, but i would personally rather get one now then buy one out right when there is a difference when your OS and applications are 64 bit enabled. As far as the 7620... I am working on getting an answer for that.

sorry but u r wrong. the 5xx series does not have 64 bit in it. the bios update wont give u that. the 5x1 seres has 64 bit but that wont be out till Q2 2005.

hmm i was told thata bios update was available to enable the 64 bit of the 500 series....

I don't want to dampen the excitement, but...

How much value does this CPU have without the memory addressing the new mobo chipsets will provide. I mean, you are still capped at 2 Gb RAM, and there aren't significant performance increases.

It looks like we have half of an upgrade here.

I think most of the excitement here, is that you can run 64-bit apps. The future will bring 64-bit, and most want to be prepaired for the future. Because not everyone can chuck out 3K every year on a new computer.

I dont think more then 2GB of RAM here is the main concern, I know its not for me. I will be getting 2GB when I order a 9860, and thats more then enough RAM for what I do.
