Hi all,

I would let u know about an issue in europe.

I recently placed an order (area 51m 7700) in AW europe shop with the gf 6800ddr2.

Now, the DDR3 version is available as i called today AW for checking if i'll get the ddr3 version instead of ddr2 that's automatically swapping in AW usa.

The agent said me not, it's not possible, and the only way is cancelling the order and recreate a new one, that's what i did, since i was only on phase 4 due to 2 changes.

The agent will swap money from the old order to the new one.

But i received a e-mail here:
Hi,

Thank you for your correspondence with alienware.

Your system when ordered also had this graphics card, nvidia 6800Go with DDR3memory. This is the only type available at the moment.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us further.

Regards,

Hi guys

Just spoken to AW UK and the DDR3 is available, but is out of stock. If you want to change your order to include DDR3 you can do that, but your order will return to phase 3 and will be delayed by 2 weeks or so.

The DDR3 WILL NOT be included on any laptops ordered as DDR2, as the DDR3 is out of stock. Was gonna put my order back and have the DDR3 but being as mine should ship next week i think i will stick with DDR2, i can always upgrade in a few months time if i really want to!!

From the benchmarks I have seen so far, the performance difference due to the GDDR-3 memory is really in the single-digit percentage area, what mostly counts if the core speed. The core clock is 330MHz stock on the GDDR-3 board and 250MHz on the GDDR-2, but since its basically the same chip the 250MHz setting on the GDDR-2 board can in many cases easily be overclocked to 330MHz (or even further).

I did this with my GDDR-2, and the benchmark scores are at the same level than what has been published for the GDDR-3. Obviously, when you wait a while longer, you will always get a fastre comp for the same money, but that holds until infinity ;-)

In my case, i should wait the same time due to the out of stock of the keyboard, so i prefered replaced a new order, cause the new keyboard will be available in 2 weeks, like the ddr3 revision, so not a bad idea in my case

BTW, i had bad experiences with overclocking a video card and may cause overheating, so, at same speed, my video card will not hang later, while the ddr2 overcloked will.
