I know.. that was your content, but not obvious from the subject line. Subject could imply leaving a laptop plugged in always.. which sorta defeats the whole need for a laptop.
To answer the question, as long as things spin down ok, I'd say yes. My experience is that you can run a 40G+ drive constantly for only about a week before it gets too hot.. but that does depend a lot on the laptop and the amount of airflow.
