ibook G4 upgrade ram? and reinstall OS?

Hello guys..

I have an apple iBook that belongs to my gurl.. I am a long time PC user..but LOVE the looks of mac stuff... the laptop was only 1000$ with a 12.1 inch screen and very light with GOOD battery life.. this compairable laptop in PC form..would cost well over 1500$

anyways.. the OS has seem to slowed down a bit.. opening the web broswer takes a lil long.. like 5 sec. it just seems really slow when navagating thru the operating system... kind of like when you run windows for 1 year with out formating...

BUT I thought that OSx was really stable.. we barly even use the laptop too.. just to play DVDS on roadtrips, and look at the internet and we havnt installed anything onto the system at all..

I also dont remember if the laptop was this slow when we first bought it or not.. but I was thinking of doubling the ram from 256 to 512 adding another stick.. what do u guys think?

Get some RAM for sure, then reinstall if no improvement. I installed an extra 256 on my PC notebook today. $39 from BB and made a significant improvement. On mine with 256 - 32 for video card - what ever XP grabs = no much left for other stuff.

OS X needs at least 512 to run well.

i use os x in school and many of the computers have 256mb, some even 128mb and it is SLOW. those that have 512 (and dual g4.....the power mac) run it well

you guys are all missing the fact he said it HAS DEGRADED

download cocktail from versiontracker.com and run autopilot.

after that run diskwarrior or at least boot from the os x cd and check the disk.. diskwarrior would be better.

Heh, I'm blind.

OS X should have a feature for laptops that allows them to clear caches and everything even while being used.
