i looked on pctorque but i didnt see just a stand alone card

I purchased 9860 model, it came with a nvidia 6800 go, the company I purchased it through does not have a contract with ati so they can not get the x800, i figured I would get one and try it out and see what the difference is. Which ever one is best keep it and sell the other.

Although I here that Nvidia is coming out with thier second generation 6800 go series in about 3 months, so I will more than likely try that one as well.

i don think you can

I think you'll be able to buy a stand alone card soon as there is many user upgradable notebooks options today, but still gotta wait a little more.

The second generation 6800 go is already available at VoodooPC site, I didn't check others.

Also, not all of these notebooks use the same card 'standard'. I don't think everyone is using MXM/AXIOM-complaint cards, so they most likely aren't interchangeable between ODMs.

I hope it gets to that point some day, it'd be nice.

So you were just going to slap the X800 into your laptop? It won't work, it requires a thermal design change in order to use the X800

i dont see why it wouldn't work the motherboard supports it

http://www.clevo.com.tw/products/D900T.asp

its the same 9860 case as all these other manufactuers are useing like sager, eurocom, powernotebook, etc..

Try going to a computer repair store that works on Notebooks and they might have a whole bunch of catalogues for this kind of thing...I know the one near me does...

it will, but it will get too hot unless you have it modified.

your not looking hard enought XCAT.

on www.pctorque.com in latest news you find this topic "Sager NP9860 GPU upgrade options (NVIDIA/ATI)" clicking on that gives you this link.

unless your unit is not from sager or one of sagers resellers this post should apply to you.

no my unit is not from sager or a sager reseller, that article was for the first gen 9860 systems bought from sager, as you see that the newer ones did not require the upgrade.

got my laptop from ********** who do not resell from another manufactuer, but they order the parts and build it. I'm not sure if PCtourque does this, though I could be wronge. The case and mother board was created by Clevo not Sager, I assume Sager is king in these parts as I have not seen to many discussions about Clevo. I will email ********** and see if I can get more information about this.

I'm just trying to understand as much as I can about this great new form of laptop, I have built my own desktop since the mid 90's and I really have a desire to learn all I can about what I am interested in. If there is a process that would be we need perform before the lappy can be upgraded to an X800 than that would be a good thing to know for not only me but others that would like the freadom of upgrading their own machine rather than shipping it off each time you want to change your hardware configuration. I get the feeling sometimes that alot of companies do not want consumers to know this information due to the simple fact that more money can be made keeping information proprietary to inhouse technicians. I will research more and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for all your comments, I appreciate the advise.

wow, do you really need an x800 to replace your 6800 already? that's crrrraaaazy

http://www.**********.net/evox.php is this who you bought from?

look at http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/n...oductType=9860 notice how they stolen most of their picture from SAGER?

they are either a sager reseller, or a very bad lier about they get their stuff directly from clevo when they don't even make their own photos.

I like to get the best system, so why not try out all the options? is that crazy? I did the same thing on my Shuttle desktop, when I purchased it.

what does that have to do with anything we are talking about, who cares where a photo of the same product comes from, someone has to manufacture a product, be it sager or clevo or whoever. The casing is generic, a company that contracts with the manufacuter can buy one and put in the parts, it just depends on whether you get it from the source or not. look at every company that sell the 9860 model, they all use the same case and picture.

But the real reason was the price and warrenty which were better than Sager and PcTourque etc.. but that is not relivant sorry for getting off the topic.

I believe you meant MMX, a multimedia enhancement for processors first introduced for the Pentium in 1997.
