where can i buy just the MOBILITY™ RADEON® X800.. - Page 2

it matters because the Sager video card upgrade option i linked earler will apply to you because they bought their parts from Sager.

everyone that sells the 9860 caseing is really call the Clevo D900T caseing, 9860 is the Sager model number not clevo model number.

the video card is also made by clevo that in turn sells to Sager and other, so if hybirdgear buys their parts directly from clevo there is no reason they can't get the x800 and they don't need a contract with ATi.

if you find anyone using photos that are from Sager high chances means they bought their unit from Sager and not Clevo or a different Clevo reseller like eurocom and other.

reason they all use the same case is because the case, motherboard and video card are made by clevo (D900T) and only clevo the ODM, then resellers like sager buy from clevo and add in CPU / MEMORY / HardDisk / Optical Driver and then sell it to more resellers like pctorque.

do you see alienware using the sager photos? do you see eurocom using the sager photos? do you think it's fair or the right thing todo to leech another companys work and call it your own?

Ok that makes sense, see we are getting somewhere. that is more helpfull than your last post. So the back of my laptop says Clevo, not Sager, then they bought it directly from Clevo. So then what defines a reseller, it's all very confusing to me.

If you buy from a manufactuer and sell that product directly to the public I do not think that is considered reselling, correct me if I am wrong. So if Clevo makes the same product that Sager and Hypergear sell, why is that useing the same picture wronge when it is an identical product, I'm sure that the picture is product specific marketing from the manufactuer for display, therefore it seem irrelevant to me.

Also, not all of these notebooks use the same card 'standard'. I don't think everyone is using MXM/AXIOM-complaint cards, so they most likely aren't interchangeable between ODMs.

I like to get the best system, so why not try out all the options? is that crazy? I did the same thing on my Shuttle desktop, when I purchased it.
i completely understand that, but i can't see the performance difference between the 6800 go and the X800 to be worth the money

Your more than likekly right, although a lot of the benchmarks I have seen tend to lean towards X800 as performing better at the moment. With the money I saved by going with this system I figured I could try it out. Thats how all this started

here is how the food chain work

Clevo (ODM) they are the guy who make the motherboard / video cards / case we can call these 3 componet the HEART of the notebook?

Clevo (ODM) is also who put in the R&D that design and complete all the extras around the CASE / Video cards / CASE

Sager / Eurocom / Alienware / many others, buy from Clevo a barebone notebook. everything but CPU / Memory / Hard disk / optical disc / a few other options.

Sager / Eurocom / sells to other resellers like PCTorque / powernotebooks / and many other.

now if everyone uses the picture Clevo provide that would be ok i think

but if you buy directly from clevo or you buy from eurocom or anyone other then sager, and then use pictures sager spend time making i don't think that is ok.

so where exactly hybirdgear exist on this food chain we don't know. but if they are direct with clevo shouldn't they make their own or use clevo pictures and not sagers?

but at the end the X800 GPU is made by ATi but the CARD with the X800 GPU is made by clevo so there is no contract needed with ATi to sell this card, because it's made and sold by clevo.

so hybirdgear telling you they don't have it because they don't have a contract with ATi is incorrect.

Ok thanks for the explination, I may have misinterpreted what ********** had said, they did not say they dont have a contract I just assumed that was how it worked when they told me they did not stock the ATI cards. I did not know that the chip caseing was made by Clevo, that is good to know.

So is it possible to say that if you bought the ATI chipset from another dealer you would only be purchasing the Chip itself and not the casing? or would the two be married together?

Thanks for the explination Tenchi.

This will not work. Size, shape, power requirements, cooling requirement all has to be customized to precise specifications of the exact Sony notebook.

the CHIP and CHIP only is made by ATi and only ATi, you can buy the CHIP only unless you are a partner with ATi and that you are in the manfacturing industry.

having the chip only would do you no good as you are missing the IC board / Video Memory, and what ever is needed to make the video card.

if we take a look at the desktop video cards from ati.

we see ATi sells their X800 Build by ATi.

but we also see MSI / Gigabyte / ASUS / powercolor and tons of other.

who also sells X800 (Powered by ATi) by these third partys.

and in this case we will call ATi (ODM) and the first tier resellers (OEM) and their resellers (resellers)

I wish I would have found your site before I bought my laptop I would have rather put it together myself with a barebone system.

Hey Xcat,

Both the X800 Pro 256MB and the 6800 256MB cards are now available via the link I posted earlier.

Why would that be? my understanding is that the X800 Mobility uses about 35% less power than the 6800 Go, they are both in the same form factor, and the laptop chassi obviously supports either or because you can get it with either card from many places.

Actualy if you get both of these cards could you run a drain test on the battery runing something graphicly intensive and then post the difference in the battery life? Im curious as to which is actualy using less power and how much less power is actualy being used.
