I've been browing these forums for about a year now, and I remember a while back there was talk about OLED screens. Has there been any recent news on this topic? When will we see them on laptops?

I actually know a tiny bit about this because someone at the university here is working on this technology and I spent some time working for the university intellectual property office.
There are a number of different basic central atoms you can use and then attach the other stuff around it, so to speak. Rhodium is popular, but people have also done a bit of looking into Osmium. It's really very neat stuff, partly because you can make a screen that's completely flexible and/or about the thickness of a coat of paint.
This was three and a bit years ago now (holy crap time goes by quickly!), so I don't know where things stand at the moment. Still, it's very neat stuff. I might have to look into where things stand at present and read up on it; I used to understand it reasonably well.

they've become very popular on cell-phone screens because of the brightness and clarity.
The TVs/laptop/LCDs are around, but are still expensive and not generally available

Considering they can use the same production lines as for regular LCDs, I would assume these will become rapidly available when they decide to release them.
