MCE 2005 on ZD8000

Why didn't I get any documentation or large remote with my laptop? From reading numerous other posts it seems that HP feels customers can figure out how to use products without providing any assistance - what good is a pc without any manual to explain how it works? After 3 weeks I'm still trying to get the remote so I can see if the operating system will work - each person gives me a new excuse (right now it's "backordered") with no date for shipment.
