Warranty Issues

Thread Starter
I called AW today to get my AC adapter replaced for my laptop because the rubber casing has cracked open right where it comes out of the adapter and is exposing shielding and wires. Ive had the lappy for 1yr 2months, and have a 3 year warranty. The initial CS guy I spoke to said it would not be replaced because it falls under the "customer misuse" category...im like WHAT?! Yes, I pack the laptop and adapter in my bag every day to take to work...there is no way I can avoid the cable being bent to some extent..but MISUSE?!

I then asked to talk to a manager...once connected I informed her that this has happened for no other reason than normal wear and tear (which I was under the impression that was covered), to which she informed me that normal wear n tear was indeed NOT covered in the warranty. Now why is it that Dell will replace my coworkers ac adapter for the same reason, his case cover cuz of scratches and more, but AW doesnt do shit for ya except cover incase of "defects"??

Has anyone else had warranty issues like this?

Depends personally i live by a few rules never to stress any cables for anything, and if you have done so then Alienware are right to do what they have said, however I am sure one of the lovely reps here shall speak to you soon.

Unfortunately the damage would not be covered under the terms of the warranty.

I've never had an issue with AW support.

Then again, I've never bent a cable to the point it's broken before and tried to have them replace it.

Normal wear and tear is not usually covered in anyone's warranty, otherwise people would ask for new keyboards when the letters fade from use, want a repaint when there's is scuffed...

What does Alienware offer in case of a damaged tower in warranty time.. could a rep pm me please on that one thanks.

As for the lead it sucks I know but I understand Alienwares point on this one, perhaps you could either take yours to a elecrician who could have a shot at fixing or get a new one and enjoy

Damaged tower in what sense?

If the damage is due to a defect, shipping, or something that's AW's fault, they'll cover it.

If you take a saw to your case trying to put in a window, and it doesn't work, AW won't cover it.

The warranty covers defects in product, and faulty labor. It doesn't cover misuse.

You can purchase an insurance policy, pretty cheap, that will cover damage to computer systems. It may also be covered under a homeowners policy. You need to discuss that with an insurance agent. Alienware offers excellent coverage for component failure, including shipping and labor. and as Hammer posted, damages from shipping are covered. The keyboard wear and tear was an excellent example of non coverage. The benefit of the Alienware Warranty is worth the added cost Having touch up paint available for sale in the gear shop is a good idea. *hint*hint

Yeah just saying if you marked your Alienware tower perhaps in a accident, what comeback have you the owner got from Alienware as they surely understand and offer something, so there is a paint kit for sale then ??
