How to install WinXP on the 9860 using ATA Mode (Non-RAID) with a USB Floppy Drive. You need the Promise Drivers because WinXP can not
1. You will need a USB Floppy Drive that is compatible with 9860. If you got/bought one from the reseller then that is good. If you bought one on
your own it might not work or partially work. I have not kept a list of compatible USB Floppy Drives but I do recall seeing a few times that the Sony
USB Floppy Drives do not work. Some have said they would Slipstream the Promise Drivers into the WinXP CD but I have not seen anyone get it to work
yet.
2. What to copy onto the floppy disk. This is where some people get stuck.
On the Utilities and Drivers CD copy the right files to the floppy disk.
For ATA Mode goto
\drivers\raid\ATA\ and copy everything in that folder to floppy disk or a:\
When finished copying this is what the A:\ should have on it.

as a contrast if you were using the RAID Drivers this would be on the A:\
\drivers\raid\fasttrak\

3. Make sure the BIOS [F2] is correct for ATA Mode.
BIOS - Advance tab
a. Disable the Card Reader so you don't end up installing Windows on Drive H:\ ? (Also do not leave any other external HDD USB or Firewire or Card
Readers attached)
b. RAID/ATA Select Mode. Choose ATA as RAID is the Default

Now F10 or Save and Exit the the BIOS. Then get back into the BIOS. This is to make sure the Hard Drive(s) show up correctly in the BIOS.
BIOS - Boot tab
Boot Priority Order
Make sure IDE 0: or IDE 1: (which ever Optical Disk Drive you put the WinXP/Win2K cd in - IDE 0: is the top one) is before the Hard Drive. In this
case PCI SCSI: SATA378 TX2plus D0/D1. The BIOS will not list the drive name but Master(D0) and Slave(D1).

Now back to installing WinXP. Plug in the USB Floppy Drive with the floppy disk inserted. This will save you a little time later. When
Windows Setup starts one of the first things it asks is if you need to install 3rd Party or RAID drivers, so hit F6 at that time or you might have to
start over. Because the Promise ATA Drivers are not Windows Logo Passed you will also get a warning if you want to install the drivers. Make sure you
say YES. I'm not sure when Windows is finished accessing the drivers on the Floppy Drive so I just left it plugged in until setup was finished. Once
Windows finishes installing go back into the BIOS and enable the Card Reader. Then install the Drivers in order per the Utilities and Drivers CD.
There are newer Video and Audio drivers so download those and run them in place of the ones on the CD.

Yes there are newer drivers on other sites, but make sure your system is functioning correctly with the Official Sager Drivers first.
