9300 Quote sitting on my desk!!!

I have a quote for an Australian 9300 sitting on my desk! I am yet to talk to the salesman to confirm the order but I can tell you that I can confirm what most have been saying:

The new processors are labelled 730/740/750/760, the 760 being the 533MHz 2.0GHz processor. No higher performance chips at this stage to be offered???

There is a choice of 400MHz and 533MHz DDR2 memory.

I'm yet to discuss the screen and video card with my salesman, but I have been offered the X300 and a WXGA+ screen in my quote. I will post a followup to confirm that better specs are available after I speak with him.

The wireless options are a standard 2915 WiFi, the Bluetooth is the newer 350 version.

The dvd burner is the same, the battery options and plugpacks remain unchanged.

I will post followups as I receive information... And I guess that makes my signature redundant too...

Price??

Excellent...I have been waiting to get some more information about the Australian release of the 9300 so I can take the plunge.

Please keep us updated and good work!

The quote with the above specs plus a 100Gb H/D, 2 AC plugpacks, 1 80WHr battery etc is 3155 ex GST, so about A$3500-3600. Bear in mind that this is the WXGA screen and X300. This is also through EPP so the consumer price may be slightly higher...
He transferred an existing order I had for a 9200 and gave me the same price with these parts. I'm sure there's some opportunity for negotiation I will let you know what the final specs and price are as soon as I get them.

Will keep you all informed, esp whether the X800 and 6800Go and the WSXGA and WUXGA screens will be available as well.

I'm sure it will go up either tomorrow or Friday, so short wait!

Wow, that sounds outrageously expensive. Assuming I coverted correctly, that's US$2500 for an X300 WXGA+ system, which is less powerful GPU-wise than a 9200.

X300? boooooo
Xarthan, have you benchmarked your two systems to see what difference Sonoma makes at the same CPU speed? I'd be surprised if there was much of a difference.

Hang on Dellbert, I haven't applied my strong powers of negotiation yet. I'll let you know the final specs and price. Dell won't get me THAT easily... Bear in mind also (as someone correctly quoted in these forums, but I forget who...) that you pay more for exclusivity. Regardless of the speeds the 9300 will cost a lot initially as the early adopters take it on. Plus the fact it has PCI-E and "interchangeable" graphics means that those with money are able to buy top equipment.
Personally I don't like having to wait extra as my 9200 was well on its way, it was suggested to me by my Dell guy to cancel the order and place one for the 9300 as it would probably arrive to me sooner than the 9200! Also I don't like being a guinea pig for new (and relatively untested) equipment but what can you do?
I have gathered that they are having trouble sourcing parts for the 9200 as the factories are probably packed to the brim with Sonomas. Mine was in production for a whole two weeks before I cancelled...

Considering the additions, I wouldn't say it was that expensive at all! 2.0GHz processor, 1Gb 533MHz RAM, 100Gb H/D, we're talking the highest specs and 2 of everything here! Plus bag plus 256Mb stick plus c/f cover. This quote figure is currently the same as the 9200 I quoted in the big '9200 runout' of early Feb (deal in sig), and I was absolutely rapt with that price, and this is identical except for the GPU and screen (which admittedly are the most expensive parts).

We'll see, I have to have this Dell guy get back to me about the GPU and screen options and I will keep everyone posted as news comes. I'm still uncertain whether the WUXGA will be rereleased with the 9300, that's what I'm most interesting in knowing to tell you the truth!

EDIT: What's better, X800 or 6800Go, not sure which of these will be available but I know one will be... If the guy asks and both are available...

Yeah it is. Unfortunately though, on a pure dollar for dollar comparison our Dells are always more expensive than similarly configured US Dells.

ie: your base 8600 is currently advertised at US$1086 with 20% off.
our base 8600 is AU$2398 with $300 off.

I guess there is just a lot more competition in the US.

Cheers

There's a fix... You guys buy us 9300's and then then send them over to us!

nope, but the components are different on the two machines. One has a faster HD and more ram so....

Just to update, got the following system specs:
Inspiron 9300
760 2.0GHz Pentium M processor
533MHz FSB
17" WUXGA Truelife(TM) 1920x1200
3yr CAR wrnty
1Gb (2x512Mb) RAM
256Mb usb stick
256Mb NVIDIA Geforce Go 6800
100Gb UATA H/D
XP Pro
8x DVD+/-RW
9-Cell battery
90W adapter x 2
Combination Power adapter
Deluxe nylon case

Jeez, nearly busted my fingers typing that out...
Total damage - not allowed to say as Dell guy said this was a one-time offer... Just over AUS 4 G's inc 10% GST. Do the maths. Also, there is no way this system config would come down any less than 4500 bucks near the start of its life. Impossible. This is the best offer my rep could do, I sent him back to his manager three times.

Big bucks... Now I have to convince the person buying the computer for me to lash the extra cash over the 9200 in the sig. So far having troubles doing so.

I will keep you all posted.

lol thats alot of money i bought my 9200 for $2700 aus
i think for a better gpu and a faster fsb it isnt worth the $1700 difference. for that money you can buy a decent desktop with good graphics card and the 9200 too.

anyway i dont think there is any1 who can afford a 4500 dollar laptop and if they could they wouldnt be stupid enough to buy it
post #15 of 41

Omars, you're right. I'm reconsidering cancelling the order for the 9200. But then I wasn't paying for that and I'm not paying for the 9300. Just gotta get the wheels in motion and get this thing ordered.

From Dell's UK Site about the i9300:

Equipped with a 17" UltraSharpTM wide screen display in two choices of resolution, your choice of Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system, Mobile Intel® Pentium® M Processor up to 2.13 GHz, a choice of 64MB or 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon® X300 or 256MB NVIDIA® GeforceTM 6800 Go graphics cards

I can't find the 9300 at all on the Dell Australia site yet. Did you get this quote through a large business contract or by ringing directly and asking? How exactly did you get him to drop the price so much?

Cheers

I have been communicating with Dell for some time now concerning a laptop. I originally ordered the 9200 almost three weeks ago and then when I asked about status was told that it may take another two weeks to complete and it may be better just to cancel and go with a 9300; news I was pretty happy with. The guy said he would help fit out similar specs for the same price and then gave me everything except the WUXGA and 6800Go, the two main reasons i wanted the 9300.
After that I exercised my powers of negotiation, busted his balls in the politest way possible and got the figure mentioned!
I am purchasing through an EPP scheme, but there is no way I could get that price through EPP as we are only allowed to purchase business models, ie; Latitude etc. which we get for at least $1000 off the retail price. They're so inflated you wouldn't believe. I'm having dramas getting my boss to pay the extra 500 bucks over an identically equipped 9200. What can you do, people sometimes just can't see bargains!

Call up directly and speak to a customer service person. They will put you through to an agent who can configure over the phone.

Good luck!
