In Response To:If you have to decide in the next day or two or three, and nothing new besides the 9300 is announced, what will you go with? Just curious....

Response:
Depending on pricing of 9300, either 9300 or D810.

I don't understand why they don't release all the new machines at once, why are some later then others? You'd think when Intel released their Sonoma platform, all of them would have been started at once?

Ummm - lots of reasons. Potential design issues, manufacturing issues, driver issues, BIOS issues, parts availability issues, documentation creation and translation to other languages, training technical support on the new technology, etc. There are a TON of things that must all come together in order to roll out a product as sophisticated as a notebook that will be ordered by a large volume of people all over the world.

I hope you can still buy accessories for the I8600, I ordered one over the weekend and am suppose to get it by the 2nd of March now instead of the 25th of Feb like it was when I purchased it.

I held off on getting some of the hardware I wanted till I got it to upgrade what I would need to have a little more unf to it, like ram, a faster hd, and maybe that dvd-rw they sell for it.

But I still havent heard any name in any forum .. would really like to know if this is coming up. (Not that I will wait - I have to decide in next 2-3 days)
I pray it's not a MR9700 or X600 in whatever replacement they have for the 8600. No marginal jumps thank you. Give me an X700...PLEASE!!!

I would be hesitant to buy a laptop that is now retired. It may be hard to find parts at some point in the future. Also its value on the resale market is dropping at an accelerated rate as it is now an outdated model that no one is buying NEW anymore. I would send it back.

I just hope I don't regret purchasing the i8600 about four days ago. Don't want to be jealous of someone who buys a laptop a week after me and gets something better for the same price.

Well I seriously doubt any new laptop will be the same price as what you paid since I assume you got $500 or $600 off.

On the other hand I cancelled my order because just such a situation would drive me mad. Would I notice the difference between old and new? Hard to say, but probably not a huge benefit for what I do. For me its just the idea of something brand new coming out right after I buy.

Yeah, I don't mind too much about not being totally "with it". I'll let my pride suffer in being in second place.

Hmm I will let it come to me first and just see what Dell is coming out with and will offer. New models will always come out and I dont want to fork out 1500-2500 everytime a new model comes out. Plus the way I have to wait on a dell laptop to actually get shipped, if I cancel now and order a new one in the next few days it will be christmas of 2006 before I get it. Then I will have canceled elventybillion more times cause something newer and *better* will be out by the time it ships again.

I remember how I used to play the upgrade game constantly with my desktops and servers to have the latest and greatest. Now I have 3 closet full of parts that I could prolly make my own server farm with if I had the room.

I will just wait it out, if the 8600 does not perform like I think it should it will go back, I do have 21 days to test out and I can always order the new one and then use the 8600 till it comes to me or the 20th day arrives, whichever comes first.

Couldnt agree more. I am not about playing the upgrade game either. Look at my sig. Does it look like I play that game? Its more just the fact that now that I am ready to buy a new lappy I'd hate to buy an end of the line model or one that was upgraded the next day or week.

My guess is that they will bring d610 over to the Home division by redesign its shell to fit an inspiron look.

8600 still available

Just looked, the 8600 is still available on the EPP (Employee Purchase Plan) page

Pat

Edit: Still available on the regular "home & Home office" page if you click on Notebooks, then 700M.

Ok, so Germany has the 9300 as of today, you can configure it and everything. I guess the guys over in the XPS2 thread were right, just like the XPS never left America, it came out as a 9100 everywhere else, so is the XPS2, and it’s the 9300 everywhere else. I wonder why they do things like that, I think the 9300 would definitely have a part of the market, for those of us who don't want the ultimate machine, but want a big screen.

The 9300 totally pimped out on Germany's site is going for 3419 euros, but I'm not sure what the exchange rate is.

Using the Currency Converter it shows that 3419 german euros converts to $4,514.11 US dollars.

edit: As of today's rate, 1 EUR = 1.32140 USD or 1 USD = 0.756773 EUR

Therefore, 3419 x 1.32140 = $4,517.87 US dollars.
