They work, yes, for those people who don't get lemons, which has been many in my experience.
Toshiba is absolutely the worst in terms of quality in my experience. One of my friends has a Satellite A10. Firs the fan started to make grinding noise soon after the 12month warrantee expired, and a few months later, it literally gave out, and the CPU shut itself down
. After getting a new fan, the computer now works, but guess what, the screen started to flicker, and jump, and a few hours later, the backlight of the LCD went off
. After I searched the forums, and asked questions of a few other owners and technicians, online, I found out that it is a common occurrance with the Satellite series, that the inverter of the LCD breaks after repeated opening and closing of the LCD lid when the power is ont. So we took it to a local shop, and the technician there told us that the cost of fixing that was ~200, and he told us that she might be better off joining the class action suit that is already in motion to be filed against Toshiba about that precise problem. And this is all within the first 16 months of use, bought brand new from Circuit City. Now you can tell my friend and all the other Toshiba customers how "they actually work" like a charm. And I can share equally tragic stories about Sony. Don't let your nepotism get to your head, and wake up and see what kind of corporate scums Sony and Toshiba actually are.
