what LCD monitors to game on?

Hi what are some good LCD to play games on. You know how LCD sucks at showing dark objects...Basically I want an LCD that can play DOOM III type terrain with 100% clearity (is that a word?). Please tell me some nice LCD that I could buy at $200 or under and post the website for it. Thanks

Generaly LCDs all have good clairity, the problem comes from ghosting thats when you can see an after image of the previous frames. I would look for a LCD with a response time of at least 16ms, the lower the better. Id suggest something like a 17inch LCD also so the native resoultion would be around 1024x768. Its hard to find a good LCD under 200 buxs tho.

This is the prob the cheapest I've seen for a Samsung 17" 12 ms response:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...001-171&depa=1

$279.00

I'd say under $200.00 is impossible.

It's 179 now and has a 16ms response time. Original poster should go with that.

or

The reason I want to know is because i want a widescreen like LCD. I hope its the top picture.... help me figure it out if you have seen this LCD monitor!!!

Thanks

99.9% of desktop LCD's are not widescreen. Make sure it says somewhere in it's description that it is widescreen. Some dorks don't know how to use photo editing software and end up stretching the image to fit into a particular area on a website, giving the buyer the idea they are getting a widescreen unit.

Aye. And most Widescreen LCDs are 19" or over and cost minimum $400 (usually much higher - the 20.1" Dell Wide LCD is 500 something).

They are worth it if you can afford it though.

Save for a few months - Dell is coming out with a HD ready LCD Monitor that is 24" of Widescreen sweetness on March 1 (1900x1200 resolution and an amazing 12ms response time).

Unlike other 23"-24" Widescreen LCDs that are HDTV compatible it won't be ridiculously priced (The Apple 23", which I consider resonably priced/featured - 16ms response time and same res as the Dell - is like 1500 or 1600 with student discount). The new Dell is supposed to retail for around 1100 and Dell often offers 10-20% discounts on accessories such as LCDs.

Looks like Dell really hit a homerun with this one.

I'd recommend an Acer LCD for the cheapskate in you, as i ahven't seen one with a very high price (for it's size) or response time (all<=16ms) on Newegg. Also, wait for Dell to release their 24" LCD, as it will drive the price of the 2005fpw waaaaaay down (read: ~400 eventually). Good luck.

why do you want a widescreen lcd? you lose an inch in height to gain half an inch in width. overall you're getting less screen space and paying more for it. as for clarity, you won't get that with an lcd. at least not remotely with anything under 200$ even if it was a 15 inch. the problem with lcd's aside from response times is that all the grays show up as black; it won't be clear unless you buy a good monitor and you obviously refuse to do so with the demand on a low priced lcd. get a crt if you're going to play games and don't want to spend about $400 on a decent lcd.

There will also be a ton of people selling their 20" 2005fpw's on Ebay as soon as the 24" comes out. Should be able to get a good deal on a very lightly used one that is still under warranty.

thanks for the comments... just to let you guys know im on a budget thats why... the first picture is on acer official website, so that is why I need to ask if that is correct. Im not particularly looking for a real widescreen. just one that has a longer width by a few inches than the height.

I have the SAMSUNG 710N-2-Black 600:1 12MS. I notice very little, if any ghosting when doing something fast paced in Battlefield Vietnam. FarCry looks great also. I got mine from Buy.com for about $270 after a $30 main in rabate, but New Egg's current final price is $214.00.

Price: $279.00
Mail-In Rebate: -$50.00
Instant Rebate: -$15.00
Final Price: $214.00

I was thinking about that exact LCD, does it seem like a good deal (I'm LCD newb). The refresh rate is nice though but I really don't understand all those specs. When it says something is its native rezolution does that mean its that monitors highest, or highest it goes while maintaining good performace. Thanks.
