would there be a big difference for the mobile 9700? Any comparisons? Im wondering because I am thinking about getting the "older 17 in. Powerbook"

Instead of having 9700 128, it has a 9700 64 mb. Will there be a BIG difference? Ill still be able to play games OK. Right?

assuming that with the age of PCI-e and even dell's 9800, the 9700 is growing outdated FAST. so grab as much ram as you possibly can to prolong its "modern" life

Not much actually. If you have a look around in the dell forums somewhere there's a 3d Mark competition. There's not too much of a difference between the 64 Meg and 128 Meg versions of the 9700.

To whoever tried IMing me asking me about gaming on the Mac...send me a PM through the boards or something because it doesn't look like the IM thing wants to work.

The 128mb will help with Quartz Extreme and Expose if you plan on using the Powerbook with an external monitor attached. Otherwise, 64 should be fine for the most part. I play WoW and UT2K4 frequently on my Powerbook with the Radeon 9600/64mb with medium settings with no huge issues.

there is no diffrerence between 64 and 128 if they are both running with the same memory clock speed.

not trying to beat a dead horse here, but yeh, 64>128 performance gains are not that great.

for games the more you have the better, but my powerbook has 64mb and that runs games fine, but to make it furture proff i would go for more ram.

well the thing is, ram amount isn't a big deal - outside of games. the reason games need more is for textures. the higher the res, the more ram needed as well as gpu speed.

Look for the diff if it is even a concern for you - get the 128 version.. better to be on the safe side. ALTHOUGH - it's really not a huge difference and i'm not sure i'd spend the time on a BTO for just that personally. If you want the larger drive and such.. go for it. Me? I'd prob head to the apple store in soho and just pick it up locally.. but i have no self control like that.
