Drive Partitions

Can someone who owns one of these give us some detail on the harddrive partitions and how it comes brand new? I've read something about FAT32 and NTSF partition and would like that clarified. I would perfer to have one solid drive to maximize efficiency and don't really care for there recovery tool. It's a shame that you have to waste a partition for one software application.

I've bin readin up on this and found some info here: http://notebookforums.com/showthread...407#post698407 . There was some on partitions in that big 8100 thread too.

@Trev21

My 8104 came with 3 partitions (as seen with PartitionMagic) : a hidden 3 GB partition starting with cluster 0000 (Everest said it was a Compaq-type whatever it means...) and 2 40-odd GB Partitions called ACER and Data (empty), both FAT32.
Now what I did: Installed PartitionMagic, and step by step deleted Data, resized Acer (C to about 12 Gb, converted it to NTFS, created 3 new Partitions for Programmes (E, Data (F and Videos (G all NTFS. Everything went good. Note: I didn't use the D:-drive letter.

The first hidden partition stays (as for now) untouched. The system doesn't complain. I didn't try the recovery yet so I'm not completely sure if everything would go well. Bit I'll give it a try when I get home..

Hope it helps

Thanks for some of the input. As I dig I find more. I haven't purchased it yet but it's high on the list. Still waiting to see what other units will be available that are comperable. Thanks!

Did you use newer version of Partition Magic? I had problems with my 8104 GPU thermal problems I think. I'll try this method when I get my new one, is the PM interface fairly easy? Did you make an image on a DVD and if so does it image the whole disk or just the windows partition?

@srw

I used PM 8.0 It is quite easy and intuitive. I did the initial image as suggested by Acer on a DVD but it beats me: have no idea what's inside :-( But I hink - only Acer (C: partition and perhaps this first hidden one. The other - Data was emty at that moment.

Is it possible to simply create one contiguous C: drive (plus the hidden partition, of course)?

Yes, it is :-)
