Post your I6000 configurations and take a bow - Page 2

Sumtingwong, so did you jack your price up yet?? hehe, I didn't know there was a contest here. I think we both will be extremely happy with our i6000's. I absolutley cannot wait for it to arrive.

ianz, while I cannot really answer your questions because my i6000 is on order, I will try to help you the best I can....

I would recommend getting the x300 if you plan on keeping the laptop for a few years. It will give you an ever so slight edge if you want to keep it. As you can see I am getting the WUXGA, which means I like high-res, so I would recommend getting at least the WSXGA as well.

I have no idea about 2005 NBA Like, I would assume that you could at least at lower frame rates.

Thanks Jd2b
The problem is, Canada is really slow with these things and we have really crappy deals/promotions. We can't simply add the video cards to our configured systems, and the special promotions give very limited configurations as well. The i6000s with x300 right now are well over my budget of about $1600 Canadian after tax because they are in their own sections (i6000d) and cannot be purchased without the "free" ram.
Right now i'm using a -$100 on inspiron notebooks to get the price i'm getting because the "free" memory upgrade jacks up the prices by a lot! This deal ends on march10th, so i guess i have a lot of time to see what other deals dell comes up with?

I guess i'm just not a very patient person haha...

Is the Intel 715 that much worse than the 730?

Edit: And can the 715 be swapped out for the 730 or better later?
i think the 715 with 1mb cache is a banias processor, which is very old, there would be a noticeable difference compared to the 730
post #25 of 109
That's the thing. Both Dell's site and Intel's say it has a 2MB cache. It has a 400MHz FSB instead of a 533MHz FSB, though.
Yeah according to Intel the 715 is a Dothan chip, it does have 400FSB however.
oohh that should be significantly better
i think in dell.ca there's 715 and 715a, which are banias and dothan respectively
post #28 of 109
does anyone know how much the i6000 9-cell battery lasts when it has a x300 video card?
i like the fact that it would go 5-6 hours and if it's a lot less with the video card, i probably wo'nt wait for it.
thanks
Do you have a link ianz? I don't think the 715 is Banias, because according to Intel it is a 90nm process chip. http://www.intel.com/products/proces...er/info.htm#pm

There is however a 705 which looks to be banias, it has 1MB cache and is 1.5ghz on the 130nm process.

Oops, forgot to answer your battery question. It does appear as though the 9cell battery will power the laptop for at least 5 hours when configured with the x300. It will run closer to 6 without the video card. Guesstimating from reviews of machines with integrated graphics vs. dedicated gpu's in this range you lose about 7-12% of the battery life with a dedicated gpu.

oohh...icic, not a big loss at all
i just configured a i6000 for 1136USD at the dell USA site with the $600 off coupon.
it has everything i want plus the 128mb x300 card
i hope i can call them and convince them to get me that deal in canada too..haha

Here are the links for the (what i assume are) banias processors

So people who own 6000s, do yall know if the graphic card can ge upgraded? If it cant then I'd go with the D810, same physical size (6.49 lbs vs 6.61 lbs) but with the X600.
In theory if you buy the x300 it will be, the integrated model will not be upgradeable. The problem is there is no guarentee that another card will physically fit in the space available, even though it will fit the PCIe connector.

The smart good natured and gentle folks at Dell wouldn't do us wrong. They're men and women of heart character and intelligence whose dilligence we can count on during times of trouble. They will find a way to see to it that we can upgrade our x300s if and when the need arises.

I willingly and without malice of forethought place my faith, my life and if need be my immortal soul in their caring hands.

They will never let us down. <puff...puff>

For those whose computers went into "boxing," is yours still in boxing? Mine was in testing and now it is back to preproduction..... Strange, sigh I hope that there was a good reason for this. I wonder if it was a faulty build and failed testing.....

^^ try chatting with dell.

Lol, it appears that the computer was resetting at the exact moment that I was checking the computer's status. It now says that it is in boxing. It will be nice when this laptop arrives to put it through the paces.
