Why the heck can I not burn CDs?

Thread Starter
Alrighty, so about 2 weeks ago, i sent my cdrw drive back to Sager because I could not burn cds. In nero, I could get as far as 8 percent or 6 or 10, depending on the size of the image/compilation that i was burning. So Sager replaced the drive for me. I got my new one today and it does the same thing. I am thinking that this is not the result of the drive. And it bugs me that I have not been able to burn anything for a month now. grumble.

I cannot burn in linux either (suse 9.2pro 64bit) i get a dao error or a mk -something error. So i have no idea what the problem is. But whatever it is, it is driving me crazy. grr...

any info?
thanks

Media?

Well, thats what I was thinking. However, I tried burning a Vlos ISO (linux distro based on gentoo) using two different types of media. I tried it with my memorex cdr's twice and my roommates TDK cdr's once. All three times, the burn got to 8 percent and quit on me. this is weird, as it happened with my old burner and this new one. rediculous, i think. I dont know if two media types is a large enough sample, maybe I'll go wander down the hall and see if anyone wants to spare a cdr...

Here is my NeroHistory.log for the last burn that I did, see if you can make a diagnosis with it:

Are you doing a CD copy? If so, have you tried another input and see what happens?

Well, I tried burning 697 mb's of data using XP's cd writer program. I got a cannot complete burning process error. So, now I am down 5 discs and haven't a thing to show for it.... And i waited 2 weeks for a new burner that WOULD WORK. But im not so sure that the error is the burner's fault.
Do you, or a friend, have an external burner you can try out? That should isolate the problem a bit.

I had a similar problem a while back, and had to fall back on the old reliable full reinstall. My burning was flakier with some burning programs than others (Roxio was best) but since the reinstall all is fine.

Ya know, I've been fearing that. Drat. And I had sworn off reinstalling for at least a while... I had gotten Windows how I liked it. Sniff... Drat, none of my friends have external drives. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the DVD-CDRW driver, and that didnt help. I would like to think that my new drive isnt screwed up, but if that's not the problem, and something is wrong with the computer itself, like some controller or something, I would be very upset. Maybe I'll borrow my friend's DVD burner from his laptop and see what happens with that. (Sager 3750) Yeah, drat, this stinks.
I think I'll try 1) borrowing his drive; 2) Finding an external drive 3)reinstall 4) get ticked off

DO #4 first - That way you go through the 1-2-3 sequence with a better attitude.

I'm having problems w/ Nero, too. I can't get past the Add Files section. And the Windows burning software isn't completely trustworthy (out of 3 attempted burns lately, only 1 was successful).

I finally have the CD burner working. I guess it was a software problem

I successfully burned an iso image using CDBurnerXP, which i acutally like very much

I am happy
