Thread Starter
Is it still Micro DIMM? Someone mentioned that they switched to regular RAM in s360. really want to confirm.

Is this the type of memory that the S360 uses?

How much RAM can the S360 support?
people on other forums have pushed it out to 2gb. The Intel Chip set will handle the memory load. Think the only reason why Sony said 1gb orig is that they didnt make Micro Dimms in 1gb size.

Sony still doesn't, but Swissbit does. They currently cost $369.

Will this 512mb stick work in a S360?

Because i also found these:

Same thing?

Also, what do you think is a better upgrade, for now. 512 More ram or 7200rpm HD upgrade?

Thx, E

It's a MicroDIMM. Do a search on NEwEgg for MicroDIMM modules... you'll find a 512MB module from KingMAx for about $130. It's a nice upgrade to the S360.

I would also recommend upgrading to a 7200rpm drive. Which one you upgrade first will depend on your usage. If you use anything memory intensive (ie, you don't reformat your drive to remove all of the Sony garbage, you run server apps like SQL Server, you play model-intensive games like WoW and HL2, etc) then you will benefit from 512MB more than the higher rpm drive.

Good Point on Memory intensive applications. I might go with the ram first, then later with the hard drive upgrade.

Speaking of formating. Is it wise to format my s360p with an OEM version of windows xp pro? Driver issues? I heard some people had trouble getting the FN keys to work again. Thanks for the advice

Not much driver issues. The only driver issue I see is for the Sony Power Scheme and icon in Control Panel I believe. FN keys and the S1/2 buttons I've gotten to work with a OEM version of Win XP Pro. As for the power stuff, doesn't matter to me since I am using RMClock and set it at minimal if on battery. The LCD brightness I just change it manually too.

You could use the restore CDs to restore the driver into a directory on the HD and manually install them yourself.
If you choose not to use Recovery CDs, then the Sony website will have all the drivers you need, minus the S keys (which I live without) and video drivers (which I use Omega drivers for).
the FN volume/brightness utillity has to be reinstalled from the recovery CD/DVD. what you do is intall your OS then the drivers of the website then you recover only the programs that you need like the shortcut buttons, power saving...

Can 2GB be recognized successfully within the S360 beyond the current max. spec of 1GB (512mb x 2) w/o any harm?
