Actually what I mean is I want to see if the the A690 can be ordered from Sony.com and omit the dock and speakers to bring the price down. There is a model A600 that can be customized but the WUXGA display is not available, only the WXGA 1400x900 resolution display can be checked. The A690 is a ready to ship model and cannot be customized. Am I missing something? I thought someone mentioned that the A690 can be ordered without the dock and speakers or is this wrong?

The A600 *does* have the WUXGA but you have to pick a better-than-default wireless option (don't ask me why...) One other thing to beware of: the A600 has DDR2-400 whereas the A690 pre-config has faster DDR2-533. Why? I don't know, but I already sent Sony feedback thru their site asking them to get consistent and put DDR2-533 in the A600 for us performance hounds. Also, the A600 only has 4200 RPM drives whereas the A690 has a 5400 RPM drive, overall the A690 is higher perf than is possible with the A600. Why? Again, I don't know; maybe the droids in marketing were let out of their cages when the A6x0 came out and they decided to make everyone's life more complicated

You are missing something but it's not your fault -- the customization UI is setup in an idiotic way.
To get the WUXGA screen when customizing the A600 you have to select one of the other wireless lan options, ex: 802.11a\b\g. When you do so the screen resolution option will automatically flip for you. It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a consumer UI.
Try it once and you'll see what I'm talking about.
