Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2 review - Page 2

I like the snap on covers for the 9300. I hope you can get the same for the XPS as I'm not crazy about the cover on it.

I hope it has some power saving features to clock itself down when all those watts are not needed.

Where was this information gathered from?

Battey life is less than half the i9200s- 2:13 vs 4:59.

You can see a sample of the snap cover option on this review...

They are also getting a couple hours battery life on their tests....
Ehh.. I was hoping I could cover up the XPS part. Looks like I can't . I was wanting the Carbon Fiber one that the 9300 has.
OK, I'm convinced, but I'm not going to order one until the shipping time comes down to 2 weeks.

And suddenly I'm happier... 9200 has better battery life. Alot better and considering how much I use it on battery.... But 6800 Ultra... drool.....

It seems you can make your own snap on cover or something - have a look at the pics on the PC Mag review.

The 9300 should be a good compromise between battery power and gaming performance. Hopefully it will be released soon here in the USA.
It will be. Dell has already announced the 9300, and the US price ($1399 in the review, $1599 in the press release).

I wish they would release the XPS2 in the UK

What happened to the 2 weeks shipping time?

Congrats, sweet computer!
BTW, where do you live that your tax is only 10.80?

Nothing happened yet. I was just pricing it out and trying out coupon codes. That is my benchmark price. Now I will be watching for a better deal. I'm not totally sold on the machine. I have a Sony A170 right now, but it has some significant drawbacks. I'd kind of like an AMD64 machine, as I think it would be significantly faster, but there aren't any available with the pci-e gpu's yet.

My plan is to wait for the 20% off coupon and then buy it through EPP. I can get it for 2461.86 then That includes 2.0 GHZ, 1 Gig, 60Gig 7200 RPM Hard Drive, 1350 Wireless, 350 BT, and 4 Year warranty with Complete Coverage. I'm lucky in that I don't have to pay tax.
If you check out the anand review, it shows how close this thing runs to a desktop AMD 4000. I wouldn't worry about waiting if you are buying it for gaming. If you need 64 bit or other stuff though you might want to wait.
Dell's website is telling me that EPP customers get $500 off XPS machines. (vs $400 off for the i9200.)

Spec out roughly similar machines where possible (ie, 2.0GHz, 60gb HDD, same wireless NIC, etc.) and you get $2,466 for the 9200 and $3,187 for the XPS2. Even considering the graphics card the XPS2 has, I'm surprised at the $700 price difference...

With just the standard EPPS discounts ($500 off, 12% off) the XPS2 price comes out to $2,364.

Still, an impressive machine for the targeted gaming audience.
Yeah, there is a fair price difference between the two. But that's what happens when you want top of the line stuff. When it gets to % off the prices should be closer together. You also have to factor in that you can't get the WUXGA option on the 9200 right now either. I think the 9300 is going to be a great laptop for the price.

I live in Houston, TX, but I always ship to a friend's house in Louisiana because of the tax savings.

A Pentium M 2.1 runs as fast as an AMD64 4000? I not think so. closer MAYBE to a AMD64 2.8.
