A couple of questions regarding XPS2 Specs

Thread Starter
1 - The XPS2 can be configured with the Media Center Edition (MCE) instead of XP Home/Pro. Are there any downsides to selecting MCE? Is MCE more memory-hungry than Home/XP even when not using the media-centric features of the OS? Are there any compatibility problems with MCE?

2 - Do the sticks of DDR2 memory need to be matched in size in order to take advantage of the dual channels? (e.g. one 512MB stick and one 1GB stick)

Thanks in advance!!

Yes you need to match size to get Dual Channel benefits.

Not sure on the MCE part. I'd say if you aren't using the MCE benefits it will be more memory intensive unless you do a stripped install though.

I had a system that i was runing with XP Pro, and installed MCE onto it, and the MCE ran faster than the Pro.

What is Media Center for?

What does 'ran faster' mean? What kind of benchmarks did you test?

I'd be interested to see how MCE could run faster than XP with SP2. The code bases just aren't that different between the two.

Does anyone have any links to sites that compare the performance of the different versions?

Also, when selecting MCE, do you get a tuner and a remote?

I'm assuming it'd be a USB tuner if anything...

I didn't run any benches, it was just my PERSONAL OBSERVATION. The point is, it probably won't slow down your system.

You don't get anything special by selecting MCE2005.

Only get MCE2005 if you plan to use it with an external TV tuner. MCE2005 has the best integrated PVR available for XP.
