FYI: Sounds Of a Failing Hard Drive

This may help some of you determine if the hard drive ticking/noise you're experiencing is normal or a sign of its impending doom.

Failing Hard Drive Sounds

More sounds to be cautious of:

- Cycle Click

- Excessive Clicking

- Grinding

- Ray Gun

- Bad Bearings (If this doesn't play for you use a different player or see the video segment near the end)

Reccomended video hosted by the late Leo Laporte: Dying Hard Drive Video Segment. If you prefer to download the video directly go here.

Oh my God, I think I had a panic attack hearing these

Lol, I lost two HD's on a raid 5 server in January (serial XXXX and XXXX+1 ) Hearing these sounds strikes fear into the hearts of men!

I should make the badbearings one a startup sound (in a loop) for my buddies notebook LOL!

Slow spindle motor is my personal favorite. It sounds like a racing car.
