5690 motherboard issue, heat related?

Thread Starter
Hello.

After 3 months of use my 5690 shutdown. After speaking with tech support a few times I was issued an RMA and returned my 5690. The following week I got it back and on the packing slip it stated the motherboard had to be replaced.

I'm trying to figure out if there is anything I could have done to prevent this.

Could it be heat related?

My 5690's temperaturs fluccuates between 41 and 47 C normally, and when gaming it can reach 50 C but I don't think it has been higher than 50 C.

At what temperature should I begin to worry about heat issues?

Also, if this wan't heat related, what are some other likely suspects?

Thanks for all the help.

sifuhall,

Those temps are not abnormal and likely did not contribute to your problem...statistically speaking, there are going to be bad motherboards that will simple crap out after a while. Also, there will be motherboards that last forever.

Everything is built with an expected life expectancy and your's was simply a stinker.

This is interesting. I just had a 5690 MB go bad on me. Being enterprising, and having taken the thing apart in the past, I broke it down, did some testing and discovered that the Intel Southbridge burnt along 3 seperate traces! I had been running the board for about 2 months.

It was spec'd out with a Prescott 3.4, which might explain the chip failure if it was weak.

Did they give you any indication of what actually failed on your board? Also was it the model with prescott support and the ATI 9700?

it bugs me they just say bad motherboard without saying what went bad. I had the mobo go bad on my 5660 after 2 years. I am pretty confident it was the vid card that fried. I also think the cooling design for the 56xx series is just inadequate.
