Hey everybody, how's it going? For the past few weeks I have been trying to decide on a laptop to purchase. After going to Circuit City and testing out the various laptops, I think I have decided on the Sony A series. Until Monday, Circuit City has a $300 mail in rebate (off of $1899) on the VGN-A250. However, I was wondering whether or not Sony would be updating the A series soon? It seems like such a big rebate would lead one to assume this. On the other hand, would updated laptops (Sonoma) be worth the extra money I'd save on the older A250? Anyone have any idea when the A250 was released and what is Sony's usual refresh time? Thanks!

The A290 has already been refreshed with the A690. I don't know what the schedule is for the other models. Figure out what performance you need at what price and base your decision on that. It will be hard for others to assess whether X % performance improvement is worth $5, $50, or $500 to you -- everyone's thresholds are different.
There are quite a few Sonoma threads in the forum, you should be able to find them with a quick keyword search. My $.02 is that the incremental performance improvement Sonoma provides is not worth the additional price over the discounted older systems. I'd save the money and put it into the next laptop purchase when the upgrade is more substantial.

I agree with Philip. By all accounts the improvements are incremental rather than major, and who knows when Sony will trickle them down to the smaller A series lappies.
I'd check out the Sony site for theclearance/refurbed models of your choice. I've seen some real bargains there (2.0 Dothan A270 for $1600).
