So far I am unhappy with my Sager-4750

The system itself is great, but it keeps locking up on me.. I think it has something to do with the clocking only being 801 mhz, but I've done all that the other threads mentioned and it STILL stays at 801 mhz.

The graphics in warcraft 3 are wayyy too dark and can't be lightened as far as I've figured out

I'm trying to play Unreal Tournament 2004, and it is very choppy, but the specs I have are WELL over enough to run this at the maximum load...

I just don't get it.... a system setup like this should be flawless... I need lots of help, but can't seem to find it, not even in threads or by asking people.

If I can't get things worked out within 2 weeks I might end up selling it and just stay with my old Inspiron 8200.

Download Moblie Meter. Then install the latest AMD processor drivers along with their Powernow! Dashboard program. I just did this two days ago and everything started working. Make sure the power setting is at Always On. Install all of that crap and run Mobile Meter and see what happens. At first I just downloaded the AMD processor drivers and that didnt help. For some reason it didnt work until I had the Powernow! Dashboard installed. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the tip on Mobile Meter. I wasn't having any problems (although I'm not pushing the chip yet. Only had it a week.)

Cool. Am about to look for the Mobile Meter software now, thanks for the tip, will report what happens.

geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/

is this the one you used?

---------------

I had already installed
AMD PowerNow Dashboard
Mobile AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Driver for Windows XP, Version (exe) 1.1.0.18

and now have just installed Mobile Meter

What exactly am I looking for though? I still see the same on Dashboard as before. CPU Voltage = max / CPU SPEED 36% / Battery Savings close to MAX.
yep that is the exact same link I used. I am interested in if this works for you.

I don't really know what I am looking for to happen. I'm doing tons of things on it to see what it'll do and I just keep seeinf frequency change back and forth from 800 mhz to 833 mhz, even when trying high end games.
If you change it to "always on" and wait maybe 10 secs it should go up to 2.2Ghz or however fast your cpu is. But make sure that that Dashboard is installed and maybe try running it first.

Cool, thanks a million, it's doing it now. It shows 833 mhz most of the time but when I tried running some games I seen it go up to 2.23 ghz, and when I had it minimized doing other things I saw it at 1.8 ghz, though it doesn't seem to stay there very long, if more than 5 seconds to 10 seconds tops.

My machine is 3.4 ghz so I sorta want to see it get there at least once to check it out.

If mobilemeter isn't running, will it still be changing properly?

Also, AMD PowerNow Dashboard doesn't seem to report the same as windows. It doesn't seem to be too accurate.

----------------------------

only other two things I need now is

1) I need to know what's difference between my BIOS (PHOENIX 4.06CJ15) or so, versus the one most of you are using here, 1.03 or 1.04 something ike that, i forgot which

2) I need to figure out why the graphics display is so dark in warcraft 3, and why changing the gamma in game doesn't brighten it like it did with my GForce card in my other laptop. After that, I'll be content.

I believe that the AMD 3400 does not run at 3.4Ghz as your signature and expectations suggest. It provides performance similiar to an Intel 3.4 Ghz configuration while running at a slower speed. I know that the AMD 3200 is a 2Ghz CPU so the 2.2 for the AMD 3400 sounds about what the max speed should be.

What is your "Phobia" about the BIOS. It should be the same one that everyone else with a 4750 has - or did you flash it? Your user manual should show which BIOS comes with the machine.

The Phoenix is what it shows when booting up. I didn't change anything at all.

I'll look in the manual though and see.

Have you experienced any progralms with graphics during game play? It's actually screwing up for me as we speak and I'm trying to find a way to fix without rebooting.

ok I noticed DK something 1.04 as a bios also. It's showing two different bios on bootup and I was only reading the one at very top. My big issue now though is, once again my video has just went haywire on me... I'm in the middle of WarCraft 3 then all of a sudden it looks like colored static everywhere (although I can still see the game) AND some parts where there are active sprites shows lots of BIG balls of color flashing. What could possibly be causing this? Bad video card?

Found another problem as well.. I kept experiencing slow loading of windows and sometimes black screen stays... Toying around I figured out it was the wirless card causing it. When I boot with the card in it was all black so I took it out and windows came up. I rebooted with it in... black screen. Rebooted again with it out, windows came straight up. Just in case anyone has this problem, just take the card out then put it in after you boot.

I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with windows's option to try to connect to network before a user has logged in. I seen it as an option when I was first installing everything, but not sure where to find it now that I've switched a LOT of drivers from the originals, but if I find it I'll report it back.

anyways... back to the 3d graphics issue...

Sounds like your video hardware might actually be bad. Are you using tweaked drivers, overclocking your GPU or blocking air vents? If so, stop doing it and see if you still have the problems. If not, you probably have bad hardware. I had the same problem (on my desktop) with a Ti-4200 I recently bought. RMA'ed the thing, and haven't had a problem since.

I've been having the problem since the original settings, so now I am using different other drivers than before. I have upgraded to the ones suggested which now run much better than the others did, as for the vents and GPU, none blocked, and not over clocked.

Being that it works fine for awhile, I think it must be due to overheating.... But if I put power management to always on and it stays at 2.2ghz it idles at about 66*c which is ridiculous for a laptop. When I first turn it on, it's at 45*c. I thought about lowering the clock to about 1.9 ghz, but I shouldn't have to do that. I paid $2,500.00 for this laptop and I should be able to use it for just as much as my old laptop if not more. So far I think I need to get my money back, unless we can get this figured out.

I want to do the AS5 heatpipe and all that you'll did, but I don't think I should have to do that to just be able to use my laptop without problems. Now recently under severe gaming stress it smelled like something was burning....

I think if I can get one or it to be functioning perfect long term with no mods then it's good, and THEN I can mod it to make it supreme....

Are you for REAL????

Have they made a few transactions within the last 3 days? Look at the items sold. I find it a bit odd to see someone selling tons of child toys and dolls, or vintage items, then the next day they have this nice alienware or dell for sale.

The newest scam people tried to pull on me at ebay was them having an auction, then when you attempt to bid it says you must contact the seller because only pre-approved bidders may bid on the auction, which I find rather suspicious as that would limit too many out, and make you receive much less $$$ from people ahving to wait and get confirmed. Anyways, After basically knowing person was scammer, I decided to email him (them, 4 different people with exact same method) just to see how there little scheme worked. They stated that they were verified through square trade and they would initiate the transaction through them, then they end the auction so it is no longer visible, and pull it off some way. I said, if I am to buy this product, I want a BUY NOW button with the price we disclosed in order to have it visible on ebay as proof that I've purchased, also I will ONLY pay through paypal to have protection. They then said, don't worry, please give me your name and address so that they can initiate the transaction with squaretrade.

I knew it was bullshit already, so I gave a nonexistent address to see what would become of it. They stated that under the square trade policy I was protected as well as them up to $3,000. They then sent me a SPOOFED email from square trade that looked like a real transaction sheet, which I quickly analyzed.

1 = In the mail headers I looked at the originatinig IP and traced it to a country & company that did NOT match square trade

2 = the userid he claimed he had at squaretrade, was NOT on the squaretrade website when I put it in (although, once again, I already knew it was a scam)

3 = the reply-to was to something @ squaretrade-compliance.*** or something like that... at least similar.

4 = why would his ebay ID be different from his squaretrade id?

5 = ALL squaretrade verified people on ebay have a SquareTrade seal by their userID to identify them as a squaretrade user, so where was his?

6, 7, 8, 9, 10, the list goes on. It's basically common sense things. Just look at EVERY little detail, analyze how they are so eager to get the money (sorta rushing you to make payment fast, threatening you must pay within 5 days, etc. or they come with some lame excuse... winning bidder's husband/wife said no to it and buyer changed their mind, so will sell to you etc. etc.

nice try scamming bastards, but you'll are too damn stupid, and can kiss my natural yellow

Oh I can go on forever, it's ridiculous, but anyways, to the point...

nevermind... I lost tuch of the topic.

This is after you stated that you ordered an 4381

I'd suggest that you immediately contact your reseller and get your money back. Seem to have a lot of troubles, and maybe the 4750 is just not for you.

66 degrees is pretty hot. My 4750 stays at 40 degrees when web surfing.

I have no clue what you are getting at with the first quote. In that thread I was explaining how a lot of people on ebay were trying to scam by listing auctions mainly in the Sager and Alienware category as well as the DELL category, because someone mentioned buying a laptop off ebay, so I was just trying to help them make sure they didn't get scammed.

As for the 2nd quote, I had paid for that Sager 4381 but after reading very much on this forum, I saw that nobody had it and it wasn't too popular, so I called and asked if I can swap for the Sager-4750 with a few customizations, so they agreed and told me to decline the package, which I did in order to not have to pay to ship it back. They applied the amount I paid (minus the shipping fees) difference to the new customization I wanted on the Sager-4750 and that's where I am now... the Sager-4750.

The Sager-4750 is a great computer indeed, but I'm just having those main 2 issues.

1) that the video card goes crazy during an hour or so of gameplay

2) that today after some strong usage of gameplay ( while the graphics were going crazy, I left it on to see if it would get worse or what would happen ) it smelled like something was burning, so I immediately shut it off.

I by no means want to have to return it for good. I want to get one in fully working order as a lot of you have, and then enjoy the blissfulness of nonstop gaming without having to let my computer rest between each hour.

My old DELL Inspiron 8200 can game for a whole week nonstop if it wanted to, with no problems whatsoever.

Blinger, I'm surfing the net as we speak without doing anything else, and mobile meter reports the following for me:

Frequency 833 mhz
Temperature 46*c
HDD 42*c
I just took it off Always On and now it is at 800Mhz with a temperature of 28 and HDD of 37. I wonder why yours is so much higher.
