Will end up being $900 - but you may be able to deal a little on the phone with Dell (ask for education discounts on top of the coupon).

Here is the deal Code: CG3VLZX4?Z$796 for $500 off purchase of Inspiron $1399+

I recommend this

Very thin and light, multifuction, very good specs, and good performance in its class, and priced very reasonably. She will love something like this.

for approx $1100-1200 you can get an Asus Z91 (built in webcam)

Asus Z91
Pentium M 1.5GHz Dothan
1GB PC2700 Micron Ram
80GB Samsung 5400RPM 8MB Cache
CDRW + DVD Combo
4x USB Ports (dont know if your daughter will need alot of peripherals plugged in but 4xusb should be the min nowadays)
intel pro 2200BG Wireless
webcam built into LCD (video conferencing and msn video chats)
mic built in (msn does voice chats)
excelent on battery life 4-4.5hrs
approx 6lbs, not TOO heavy

edit: you may want to ask your daughter what she wants the laptop to look like, the asus S5n looks really good, and its super small, also i recommend against a mac since some of the software distributed by the college may be for PC ONLY
