NVIDIA Unleashes World's Fastest Mobile GPU

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 ULTRA

Press Release: http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.aspx?i=23887

While Anandtech didn't benchmark it against any ATI cards, they did test it against desktop 6800 GT and 6800 Ultra. Considering those benchmarks, I'm going to say it is probably a lot faster than the X800 Mobility.

I'm suspicious, though, that this isn't simply a desktop 6800 shoved into a notebook; the Go 6800 Ultra is actually faster than the desktop 6800 Ultra in a lot of tests.

Oh yeah, and I'm not thrilled about this latest trend in putting out mobile GPUs only intended for a small handful of the largest DTR notebooks.

I'd much rather see ATI and nVidia do what Intel did with the Pentium-M; design a new mobile graphics chip, from the ground up (Or close to it), with mobile notebooks in mind.

What ATI and nVidia are doing these days is akin to what Intel and AMD did with products like the "Pentium-4m", which was to take their desktop products, slap on some thermal management, and call them mobile chips.

Interesting, if its in that garbage DELL Inspiron XPS2, it should make its way into the 9860 fairly soon one would think.

Garbage? Could you please elaborate that thought?
Are you speaking from any kind of knowledge or experience on the subject or are you just full of xxxx?

Easy, big fella, everything is relative, XPS2 on its own, yes a very decent gaming computer, but next to 9860 (imho) it is garbage.

Last I checked, theres nothing wrong with stating your opinions in the good 'ole US of A.

All easy here.
Hmm, are not opinions based on any kind of knowledge/experience in the US of A?
Or is this similar to the "Iraq has weapons of mass destructions, its a fact, lets invade" opinion?
Last i checked, the rest of the world has the humble opinion that the US of A is garbage, next to Europe.

What a lighter, thinner computer, with better battery life and a 3d Mark 05 score of 5000+ is better than the 9860?

What strange reasoning you have, friend. It seems based on some sort of logic....how oh how does that work?

I think Studio54 just prefers notebooks that will set his pants on fire...

Yikes... not sure how this topic got political! LOL...

Last I checked, I didn't think the U.S based National Secuirty policy on whether the citizens of another country "liked" us. I'm sure many of the people whom "dislike" us would trade their left arm (among other things) to live in such a great country (not perfect) but great!

Anyways... moving on...

Do you have anything to quanitfy this? In terms of performance it stomps all over the 9860 so do tell...

The 9200 was already a great notebook, but now that the XPS 2 has a glossy screen, is faster than the 9860, lighter than the 9860, 2x the battery life, and cheaper when comparably equiped, I can't see why anyone would be buying a 9860 right now.

So what exactly about the XPS2 is worse than the 9860? Also, you didn't read the article on the 6800 Ultra go at all before commenting. When you said "There's no way they won't put it in the 9860 soon", if you'd read the article, you would have seen that they said the Ultra is far too hot to be placed in anything but a P-M or a Low power A64.

Another jester, how amusing...
As i, the humble Shepherd of fools that i am, originate from and live in Sweden (you know, the capital city of Germany, or was it Iceland?) read this post i actually laugh.
If there is a single country in the world i feel absolutely no desire to live in or visit, it is the usa.

Actually, I agree w/ u. I don't support the 9000lb gorilla approach to foreign policy the US seems to favor in dealing with anything that is not within 50 miles of american soil.

If u were being facetious I get it, if not, then u didn't get me there but not a bad try.
