capture thru firewire while saving to firewire?

I've heard there can be problems capturing through firewire while saving thru a different firewire port to an external drive if both ports are on the same buss segment. I've also heard that this problem can be overcome with fast enough machines.

Has anybody encountered this? Or done this and has no problems? I'm doing the research before I buy, but plan to get a Sager 9860 and Premiere Pro.

Any info would be great, thanks.

I capture pre-compressed MPEG (up to 12 Mbit stream) and save it to an external HD on the same channel. This is using USB2, so Fire Wire should work as well.

I do it all the time... capturing 30mbps DV and saving it to a firewire HD that is daisy chained to it. Works just fine with an athlonxp 2400

I do this too with no problem. I did it also on our last machine which was a 2.4ghz P4 and didn't have any problems.

Very cool! I'm so glad I found people who have done it.

I ordered my 9860 on friday. So hopefully next week, I can try for myself!

Thanks.
