Hello to all, new user here.
I wanted to relay my experience with an Averatec laptop and get some ideas for a potential replacement unit.
I bought a 3220H last August, and prior to last week was quite happy with it. I like the smaller size and lighter weight, and not paying for alot of bells and whistles I don't use, so this was just right. I love the built-in Wi-Fi.
I have noticed and seen in previous reviews that the bottom of the laptop gets quite warm, and that the battery life could be better. Agree on both, but a Targus coolmat solved one problem.
Battery life....ahhhh...therein lies the other. Unfortunately about a week ago, I noticed the battery life declining even worse than it usually was. Finally, Tuesday of this week, the computer died completely....no lights, no bells, no whistles, dead as a doornail, will not turn on either on battery power or on AC. Apparently there's some sort of possibly known issue with the heat within the unit causing problems with some part inside that the AC plugs into.
6 calls to Averatec have resulted in nothing. Thier computer that generates RMA numbers has been down since Tuesday (how's that for irony???) and will be for an undetermined time, possibly an additional week or more. Averatec will not authorize me to take the computer elsewhere. They claim they will honor the warranty, but actions are speaking louder than words right now. It's sad that what seemed to be such a great machine is getting such poor support from manufacturer.
My questions are a couple fold:
Averatec wants me to back it up before I send it. Sure, not a problem...
IF I COULD TURN IT ON!!!!! Any thoughts on this?
I'm concerned about sending it with hard drive intact back to the manufacturer (if I could ever get an RMA number anyway) with financial/personal information on the hard drive, including passwords.
If I have to replace this computer, anyone have any comments on a smaller sized, WiFi Windows based machine that's NOT an Averatec?
Is there any way to get info off dead hard drive onto new computer if I have to buy a replacement?
Thanks for any ideas.
