I originally ordered a 4791 gut did not know enough about it so instead I ordered the 4750 hope it is a powerful beast , cause I plan on doing some serious work with it. dvd production music, video editing, multitasking etc. Can anyone vouch for the system that it can handle all of this better or as good as the pentium 4 3.2.

Pentium 4 3.2Ghz? Sure it's better. A very nice congig you got there too! I'm sure it wil fit all your needs. (On a side note, you might want to check out Sager 9860... although I'm sure theres a reason you arent thinking about it )

That's damn near the same configuration that I've been looking at, with the addition of more RAM. One thing that troubles me though, is on what type of processor would be the best for video editing and the pros and cons involved with the Athlon, Pentium 4 and Pentium M models. It's all too confusing for me...

I use my 4750 for Premiere Pro work. It is faster than my schools desktop I had to use, but I was hoping the rendering would be faster. Premiere is supposedly optimized for Intel (are you suprised?). I am happy with its preformance, bring on 64-bit Premiere Pro (I called them and they have no date for release, I was told to check back after the relese of xp pro 64bit).

This is similar to the config (80gig hdd) I'm looking at for the wife since she doesn't want me to upgrade her pc but wants a laptop. Where did you source yours?

You say you wish rendering was faster, how fast is it now. Or better yet what
is what is considered slow to you.

Still wondering....but it seems the Pentium 4 is better.

I am rendering 3d animation on my 4750, as I type this. It is really fast with Lightwave and Digital Fusion.

Lightwave 64-bit is slated for release soon and then (if win64 is available) it will scream.

I have only used three computers with premiere in my life, so I can only give you an opinion compared to the others. One was a pentium 3 around 2ghz with a gig of ram (top of the line in its day but showing its age). The other is a Athlon64 3500+ with a gig of ram and raid-0. So I do not have any experience on up to date pentium computers. Pro has improved the real time preview where it is no longer an issue (so I cannot use that as a benchmark). There are so many variables that go into exporting video (resolution, video effects, track combining, filters, compression) that I cannot give you an accurate comparison. I can only say that it is plenty fast for me when exporting to a video file, (except encoding to DVD, but I have not done this on the other systems so I do not know how they preform). I bought this laptop to use with premiere and I am not dissapointed. People cannot believe that I only use a laptop to edit video. As i said before, premiere is supposedly optimized for Intel, but intel as of yet does not have a true 64-bit processor out for notebooks. The only issue I have had with this laptop was a supposed compatibility issue with DIVX and Via chipsets, but the problem has now been linked to Premiere Pro, so I have to use Dr. Divx to convert. My previous statement about hoping the rendering (exporting) would be faster is simple greed, I have no regrets about buying this laptop. The screen is truely beautiful to work with and gives plenty of real estate for throwing the video around.
