Do mobile GPU's usually come with a temp sensor?

In Lavalys Everest I cant check the temp of my Geforce 6600 Go. I have no idea if there is a sensor on it, but there is one on my mobo.

I want to crank up the clock on it but i feel much safer with a temp reading. Is it safe to rely on the mobo/cpu temp instead? Is the difference big, thanks.

ive never seen a built in or onboard temp probe for the gpu, some laptops dont even have that for the cpu

Most sensors actually just measure ambient temperatures around the MB. Don't know if your laptop has a GPU temp sensor, but you should be very careful simply relying on a MB sensor. If you have an ambient sensor and a CPU sensor, you can use these to guess what the GPU temp is. Note that if the ambient sensor reports a pretty high temperature, you can bet that the GPU is boiling.

In short: I personally wouldn't do it except for a marginally useless increase.

Yeah i hve also noticed very little increase in 50-100mhz overclocks, but some benchmarks I've seen the difference between OC'ing is 300-600 points in 3dMark05!! Even beating the next card in the lineup (like 9700 nearing or beating 9800).

EDIT: I am talking about reading reviews about pros benchmarks not my own
