Problems reloading Mac OS X

I'm trying to help my friend reload Mac OS X on his powerbook but for some reason when you press C to boot off the Mac OS X Installer CD, there is this colored bar and it sits at the apple screen forever. Has anyone seen this and if so, how do I go about fixing it?

Are you installing via the Restore disc that came with the Powerbook, or a Retail CD? It sounds like you are booting off an unsupported CD by that system. Basicially most macs will not boot a retail CD properly, unless the retail CD came out after the Mac was released. Otherwise, the proper way is to use the Restore CD, as it contains the same Mac OS X installer, but with updated drivers for the machine.

I think the CD was a retail CD, not the restore CD. I'll give the restore CD and update.

Thanks.

Most Users attempt to boot to the Software Restore Disk Set which is Not Bootable You want to make sure the restore Disk Says Mac OS X Install Disk 1 That is the proper disk.
