Where's the other memory slot?

I have a new Toshiba M2 with two 512Mb RAM chips. I have two 1Gb RAM chips to replace the original two. When I open the bottom panel, I see just one 512Mb chip.

Where is the other one?

Thanks!

512 non-removeable standard

I know that the model I have (A75-S209), you can only replace one chip. It has 512 in it all the time, that is not replaceable.

Hope yours isn't the same case, but it sounds like it. For me, 1GB Ram is enough for now.

My two slots both are for removable chips. I successfully added the two 1Gb chips and I now have 2Gb RAM.

1Gb wasn't enough for me because I frequently run three OS's simultaneously (my Windows XP host, with two virtual machines: Windows 2003 Server, and another XP). By the way, I'm using Microsoft's Virtual PC.

Which is more efficient? 2x512 or 1x1GB?

Identical

I believe there's no difference as far as output goes. You definitely won't notice a difference. The benefits of the 1G card is, of course, being able to add another 1G card to the empty slot. And trust me, you're going to want to do that eventually... the greed/hunger always sets in eventually.

But the benefit of the 2 512MB cards is price. Much cheaper than a 1G card. Which is why I went this route. I could have a 512 delivered for $100. Whereas the originally price for the 1G that I wanted was $450! (now down to about $360)
