Problems!!!

Problems:

1. Battery does not charge up to 100%. Max it goes up to is 98%.

2. When typing sometimes the touchpad detects my thumb hanging half a centimetre above it and starts moving the cursor causing my entire work to be thrown off the thought chain...

3. NO external volume control buttons. Only Fn key and F5/F6 to increase/decrease volume.

4. Right side near vent gets incredibly hot after gaming heavily.

5. Replacement battery non-existent even though company states it's availability.

6. NO internal floppy drive. <- Minor problem. Sure helps with thos BIOS flashes if you have a floppy drive.

Bottom-line: This machine is a LOT of computing for a LOT less money but a LOT is sacrificed after everything is said and done...still...now that I can't return it...I will have to hang on to it :/

Thanks for the review, ideas.

I think a lot of people here in the forums would love to have just the few 'problems' you have. I would call them 'minor annoyances' that are pretty subject to your individual tastes.

1. might just be the measurement of the device. 2% is within an acceptable range. Considering a 120-minute battery life, that extra 2.5 minutes or so shouldn't really affect things much.

2. can you adjust the touchpad properties to "disable touchpad while typing"? some drivers allow this.

3. i agree, love the external volume buttons or even a dial. Not really a problem, since this is published hardware and known before purchasing.

4. is the vent near the palmrest? if it's an uncomfortable heat, definitely a problem.

5. which battery are you looking for? i assume an extended life one. You can pick up an extra battery for around $110, but I haven't found anything extended-life, either.

6. these are getting pretty rare in thin-and-lights, and i wouldn't even expect to see one anymore. but you're right about the flashing.

The vent is not very close to the palmrest. It is about midway from the LCD and the opposite edge of the laptop.

As for an extended uptime battery, I am still looking.

The volume buttons should have been dedicated external ones IMO.

this is a really good thread,
but i already ordered one it would have been nice if i read this beforehand but not that i don't want it anymore, but at least now i know what i'm gonna work-on when i get it.

I bought this lappy 50% because of the "LINE-IN"
I need it for my home studio, i hate adding allthe USB peripherals to get the LINE-IN for the other laptops...this one gets it direct

Got the Batallion 101 S -turbo AMD64

I am thinking of getting a p4 emt64 3.2 2mb cache with 512 mb of ram and 60 gb hard drive with 17 screen(is Ibuypower a bright screen?), x800 graphics(upgradeable) and dvd burner wireless network. I mean it seems kicking? I am going to have it plugged in for gaming...I have a cool pad to put it on from vantac...any advice on getting this monster.

I mean I want the screen, I want the hi P4 with 2mb cache, I want the strong graphics and upgradeable in the future...and the 7200 rpm hard drive. Anyone seen anything better????

I just purchased a 2591a3 off cyber power and awaiting for it to be picked up. The main office is coincidently 5 minutes from me. In the meantime, while im still excited and hasty to try it out, I was wondering, how long does your batteries last on a full charge?

1.8Ghz Centrino
256MB Radeon 9700
512MB PC3200 Corsair XMS
80GB 5200RPM Hitachi hard drive
4X DVD+RW
standard 8-cell battery

I have it in the mini review which is in the first post of this thread. I have been able to make it last about an hour and 55minutes while watching a movie and working on webpages.
Edit: Looks like they deleted the post over at FM. Oh well...it was up for about a month and half.
