latest graphics without the latest processors?

Thread Starter
is there much of a difference between the 2.4 ghz and the 2.8 as far as heat and battery life goes. the only reviews i've seen so far are for 2.8's.

i've been searching for a laptop with UXGA and the M9 in the $1500 range, i'm also looking for resonablely good battery life. i don't care as much about the processor speed. 1.5ghz would be just fine. unfortunately it seems that if i want good graphics and a big display i have to have a latest processor too and therefore more money and more heat and less battery life, at least for that price. the 5660 seems to be my only option for that price. i'm basically looking for a laptop that can handle some newer games and be able to go to class with me for a couple hours.

does any one no of anything else available like this.
also does anyone have any idea what the battery life would be on a 5660 2.4ghz with 2 batteries, doing simple tasks like word processing.
and maybe even that 2.0ghz available on the raw system builder.

thanks.

I bet that the price differences nowadays between the 2.4 and the 2.0 would be about 30 bucks. I'd pay the extra 30 and get the extra 400 mhz. To downgrade all the way to 1.5, i'd say you'd get a max of 70 bucks from the 2.4.

I agree, 1.5 GHz is fine for today's needs, but considering some games are already recommending 1 GHz, I'd say to pay the extra 30-70 and save yourself the 2000 later.

I agree about the small price differences between processors. Keep in mind the system bus speed changes between 2 and 2.4 as well. I would say if you are looking for a laptop, Sagers would get you the best thing for the best price, especially at a place like PCTorque where nothing is inflated. If I were you, I'd try looking through their customizer and trying different combos of stuff... if you want, you could also get 512 ram now and get it from somewhere else like crucial later if you are looking to get a lot of RAM. Best of luck to you!
