I had trouble installing the Cat's so I went with the Omega's... they are very stable and include an OC tab in the features...
However I don't know if they are the best for benchmarking... they focus more on quality I believe.

But now I am back to the 7.93's from the driver CD because I wanted to test them out. They seem swell so far...

No... not yet. In a few days I'll go back to them and see how the scores turn out.

either explode or emplode I would imagine

nah really what kind of souping up are we talking about here and im not talking superchargers

Improved cooling... bigger heatsinks, faster fans, better thermal compounds...
So, your system stays stable at 400/280 without heat issues? And at that spec 03 tops at 3200'ish, correct? Could you run 01 too at 400/280 please?

Also, what program are you using to OC you GPU? PowerStrip?

Cheers.

Hey, guys. Just wondering; If you push the chip/memory a bit too far with the OC-ing, will it most likely simply crash, or most likely completely die?
Since they have thermal sensors on the chip, I would imagine it would shutdown or underclock itself like the intel pentium 4 chips do....but im not sure if it bypasses that when overclocking it....i wouldnt want to be the one testing thatout though

jx....post when you do please.....wtb....why use o1 when 03 is recommmended for these chipsets? 03 does the testing of all the goodies the m10 offers And all Im using by the way is the 7.93 drivers and powerstrip.

Mmarkin- if your not familiar with OC, then starting on your laptop is not a good idea.

For the core, if you OC it too high, it will lock up the system.
For the ram, if you OC it too high, it will show funny colored dots.

ONly if you REALLY push it, or push it too high too long will you kill it, But there is always risk...

E- we want 01 becuase it is still a great benchmark, and compairs well against newer and older cards still.

did like 5 3dmark03 tests with no anomalies...score was 3350 not bad...

You and all other owners of 8890's and readers of this baord should be ecstatic!!! You have beaten the 9600Pro DESKTOP card score.

According to Tom's Hardware they scored a 3252 on a desktop pro 9600 gpu in 3dMark03.
See article: http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/...n_9600-26.html

Edit: Oh and the 9700Pro only scored 50 points higher.....
And the GEForce FX5600 at 1024x768 with NO aa or af....just 2359 (again the desktop card). http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/...600/index3.htm

So it seems this new GPU in the sagers is whooping some serious butt.

Great.. just hurry and ship my 5680!!!!
I have been following this thread for a couple days now. I have no idea what the 3dmark03 is or what overclocking is. I still have not recieved my 8890 yet, but tuesday.

I want to find out what my score is before doing anything else to my computer, just to see how it ranks with your guys's. I take it i need to dl dx9 and get Radeon driver 7.93 right?

What is powerstrip? How can i make sure i am not OCing? What is OCing?

Thanks a bunch

Amen! I'm dying to play SW:G, SW:Jedi Academy, UT2k3, Unreal I I (which sits unopened on my computer since release), Rise of Nations (ditto), Serious Sam I and II, and other favorites without having to go into my home office and fire up "the beast" (a 2.8GHz, 533MHz FSB, 1GB 1066RDRAM, homebuilt-watercooled system w/Radeon 9700Pro) just to play these.

Worse, I want to play these while on the side of a mountain in the middle of a remote jungle for months on end (a place where my work requires me to be at least 6 weeks out of the year).

I can write my books on damn near anything (and do). But my games demand POWER! And that power is deliverable only by the 5680 I'm now waiting on (and thanks to the palmrest template I ran across today, the acetone I've got on-hand, the vinyl dye supply I have handy, and the color printer that sits idle, the custom paint job will be applied shortly after it arrives, rather than waiting for Adam. )

I got 2970, which is very good, but I believe that only having 512 MBs of RAM is stopping me from getting higher, am I correct in my assumption?

What settings did you guys have yours on for the test? What AA/AF?

atremis yes im sure thats it. As far as settings...dont change a thing in 3dmark...default settings is what I used. Blast...good info! At first I wasnt happy because on my desktop which Ill post specs below I get around 4750. But I understand alot now and very happy with my score on this beast

Desktop specs:
athlon xp 2400+
1024 pc 2700 generic ram
asus a7n8x deluxe mobo
80 gig WD hard drive w 8 mb cache
and a 22 inch sony trinitron monitor

(i also have a 1.8 pentium here which I only use for burning dvds and I leave my 8887 in the office my beast sits in my bedroom on one of the nightstands which is where Im writing this right now hehe)

Great; just what I wanted to hear. I wasnt planning on doing anything though. Im not experienced and starting with a 2000-dollar piece of equipment doesnt seem like a good idea.

Another question for ya: if you use powerstrip, would it be correct to say that the graphics overclocking is software-based? Or is it actually low-level, permanent setting manipulation?
