usb2.0 problems

Thread Starter
ok, after going through all of the recommended thread for installing the usb2.0 drivers, i've come to the conclusion that something is definitely not right. i havea usb2.0 external disk pack which just refuses to show up.

my system is xp pro w/ sp1. the device manager shows 3 intel usb controllers, 2 via rev 5 host companion controllers, 1 via usb enhanced controller and 6 usb root hubs.

everytime i insert my usb2.0 drive, the system keeps complaining about the hi speed device not working on the regular hub. ( it does not matter which of the 4 ports i plug it into. )

anyone has any ideas or a TESTED procedure that works ?

If the device is plug and play, it should'nt have this problem, but check your device's documentation and see in the device manager if your IRQ and memory address settings match.

usb2.0

i have a plextor 48.24.48 cd and it works great
did you download or update the usb2 drivers from microsoft or did you install them from the sager disk.
they are the same
is your plug and play enabled in your bios

Actually, I have a 60GB maxtor drive in an ADS Technologies usb 2.0 enclosure that I can see under disk drives in control panel and in the "unplug or eject hardware" system tray icon, but nowhere else. I have tried ADS drivers, Sager drivers and MS drivers, but nothing works. I was hoping upgrading to xp pro would fix this, but after hearing your story, I am not so sure I want to do this...

when you upgrade to xp pro make sure your disk is installed and on
also under files in windows explorer make sure hidden sysfiles are shown

blue did you install tweak for xp and make sure the drive letters are checked to be used that might help

thanks for for the advice, however, the problem still exists.

adam, is it possible for sager to give a step by step procedure with xp pro/sp1 install to get this to work properly ?

i hate to think that no one tested usb2.0 compliance/support considering that everyone who is buying this are going to be bleeding edge.

They can probably help out with it. I haven't tested out what you're trying to do to be much help on it. Did the device come with it's own cable and anything to install?

I had a problem like this before, windows could'nt dectect by "plug and play" a cd-rom drive i tryed to install, so i had to manually install the drivers, then find out from the manufacture of the cd-rom the proper irq and memory address settings and change the improper settings in the device manager. It's been working fine ever since.

the disk enclosure came with its own cable which are regular usb2 cables. it did not come with any drivers. the enclosure is from sarotech (cutie model).
hey, I went to sarotech and saw that there should be a usb driver that came with it. You can download it from them. Here's the link, hope it helps, if not you might want to e-mail them or give them a call.http://www.sarotech.com/cgi/main_eng...md=downloads_e

nope, not me.....i used to drive a saturn but i now drive a focus zx3...

whoops, i could of swore i saw a windows driver and for some reason I'm not able to get through the web to check it right now. sorry to get your hopes up. I'd e-mail the smucks and ask why they said it would work with a ibm compatible pc but not list a driver for it or take it back to where you bought it.

Okay, after over 1.5 hours on the phone w/ADS technologies tech support today, I had the guy completely stumped. I wasn't too surprised, I had already tried everything that he had suggested. So he gave me an RMA (albeit reluctantly). But wait, here's the cool part. Instead of authorizing a swap for another USB 2.0 enclosure, I convinced them to get me a Firewire enclosure! Wohoo!!!

cool, how do you like your Focus?

I got my friend's firewire enclosure on my own lappy and on the sager briefly, worked easily... no one here has a USB2 enclosure though. I'd really like to get something like that to try USB2 on... cuz I don't really know of any way to test and see if it's running at USB2 speeds. Aw well. I'll keep looking to see if I find a way :-)
