Went to Best Buy today to see the

17 inch Toshiba Qosmio Notebook with Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology and MAN was it hugh. I think it is almost the me size as the new XPS2. Little worried about traveling with this thing.

Guess that all depends on how you're going to be Travelling.....
stay away from bikes and concentrate on big sedans and you'll be fine

Airlines allow you 2 pieces of carry on most times... Even the big ones I'v seen on planes seem to be no big hassle for the people lugging them

They're both essentially the same size as my Sony 17". At first it seems huge, after a while you get used to it. I use mine when flying all the time. I always feel a little self consious when I pull it out. I carry it to and from work everyday, too, and often to meetings at work. The plus is that it is awesome to work on, the 17inch UXGA widescreen + the portability make a great combination.

Well at least carying a XPS2 wont look like crap as the Toshiba and the rest of the computers at Bestbuy.

17" is not too bad. I carried around my I9100 all the time and this is like a LOT LARGER weight-wise and thickness-wise compared to the 17" XPS2.

"I'm sorry sir, you'll have to buy an extra ticket for your laptop."

It shouldn't be too much of a problem. I can fit my 9200 in the same backpack that I've carried on the plane before. Have yet to fly with it, but I'm not worried.

Besides Mini-Me carried a 17" too.

the XPS2 is about 1 lb less than that 10 lb beast

i actually checked out the qosmio at bestbuy too.. it looks pretty nice didnt like the glossy black finish around the arm rests though, thats just smudgeville. for the price the xps cannot be beaten!

used my 9300 on an airliner, no problems

HELLLL NO! The Toshiba is much bigger looking then the Gen2, it looks much bigger and bulkier then the Gen2 in every aspect...I looked at my roommates and I thought that she had a 19inch screen at first then I noticed the 1 inch of wasted black gloss around the screen, Plus I didn't like how the Screen was attached to the computer itself.

Aren't we all kind of missing a big point here?

The fact that the XPS2 -obliterates- the Toshiba in almost every test, especially graphics?

I just got back from vacation and I took my XPS2 with me. Personally I would have preferred a smaller laptop although the XPS2 wasn't too big to use on the plane, and I was pleasantly surprised with the battery life, I got about 3.5 hours watching a movie and surfing the net/downloading/editing photos at the terminal. With the Dell XPS2 backpack it will fit under the seat in every type of plane I tried it on.

I will probably be buying a smaller laptop to use while travelling and to use in my truck. The XPS2 won't fit in my center console and a 15" lappy will, and I use a computer in my truck a lot to log data and with a GPS reciever.

If you're looking for a more portable laptop then don't get the XPS2, but then again, most people don't get the XPS2 for it's portability, now do we.

I travel with mine, and have the XPS backpack, and it works fine. If it's too heavy or whatever then I'm going to ask that you turn in your man-card for destruction.
Should I mail the card to you for destruction, or can I just destroy it myself and take a picture as proof?

how the hell do you have such a good reputation already!?
