after the iXPS2 release...

...Yea I've seen so many people trying to sell their i9100/ixps. That is surely going to effect our laptop's prices I don't know but I am glad because I didn't pay over 2000 bucks for this machine

I honestly can't justify taking something this valuable, which I bought 9 months ago, then ditching it for better technology in an ever-evolving market.

But hey, that's a college student talking.

Hey but SirBA you are selling your lappy so what are u saying?

Computers aren't investments. If anybody is upset over the resale price of their laptop dropping, they are morons.

My thought exactly. If you don't like the price going down, don't sell your laptop, ****.

If you insist on being on the bleeding edge all the time, you will suffer some hemoraging - of money if nothing else.

Also, no matter what you buy, there WILL be something better on the market in 3-4 months at the outside. That's just life in the computer world, technology marches on. If you try to constantly have the best thing available, you'll be buying 2 - 3 laptops a year and selling the old ones.

At a loss each time, inevitably.

I usually upgrade when the system can't do what I need anymore (usually because my needs have increased). The XPS Gen 1 is still handling everything I throw at it, so I have no immediate plans to upgrade it, even though it's no longer the baddest thing on the block.
I actually upgraded to a 9200 (through no money of my own, thank you broken 9100) and I would have been perfectly content to stick with my 9100. I configure my computers to last me about 4 years or so and have yet to be disapointed. Hell, I bough my desktop in 2000 and beside crappy Windows 98, it still runs great. I see no reason to upgrade so soon.

I'm with JFriedman86. I'm a college student and I had to save hardcore for this lappy. I don't have the money to sell it for much less and then put out another thou plus for an upgrade -- more power to you if you can. But I recognize the market is always going to do this so I'm waiting it out until I can justify selling it and upgrading - which I'm sure won't be for a veryyy long time.

I know when I bought my 9100, I picked up the 3yr onsite warranty and CC because that is my expecting usage span for this laptop. Like most, I suspect, you just have to know going in that something better will be coming, just hopefully what you buy isn't missing some crucial new technology.

If I were a portable user, I'd probably like the new mobile cpu's, but I'm purely a DTR user, so the only possible thing I'd like beyond what I have is a bigger display, like 20" or so, but I'm not wanting to dish out another $500 for that just yet

The Inspiron 9100/XPSgen1's are sweet machines. I heard once before on this board someone saying that despite the fact there are newer versions being released, our computers are JUST AS GOOD as they always were!

Why people always want the newest thing, its a mystery to me especially what they have is working just fine. Probably bragging rights, but personally I could care less. I'm cool with my xps. The xps gen2 don't matter to me although they are nice machines.

hey rogue -- did you know everyone's been "looking" for you?

I have been reading up on various roadmaps for cpus by amd and intel and it seems this xps gen 2 is a very minor update/upgrade. That is what convinced me most to not get rid of my XPS. Yay for patience. It was the screen and the vdo card that was getting to me the most in the XPS Gen 2. hehe so I am guilty of being greedy for a day and a half.
