Looking at those DVD dream systems....anyone own a good one and can give me some sorta review? Im looking at the big ones (600-1000) with the standing speakers and wireless rear speakers etc...they claim 800 watts, but I just cant beleive that??? I mean for the money it should be, but if I spend that and my promedias are louder im gonna be pist.

And thanks to all who nominated me for my outstanding honor this week.

Commish make sure you an upscaling DVD player if you get a new one. Sony has one as does Denon, Samsung, and Bravo.

I would go visit the local AV store and listen to them myself. Having Klipsches, you are certainly aware that loudness is not an indicator of "quality". I would rather spend a grand on receiver and separates myself, but the HTB do serve a purpose.

yeah but the dvd dream is pretty sweet for 699. its simple and keeps the cost down.

Commish stay away from inbox systems. They are crap. I can write a loooooong post explaining but i wont. Bottom line: buy each piece separate. Denon receivers and DVD players are the best then Harmon kardon. For speakers go with klipsch and if you can afford it go with the synergy f3 series. Klipsch are great speakers and are still affordable (the really high end are way too expensive and personally i don't know if they are worth it). I'm also currently in the market for equipping one of my rooms and am looking at the denon avr 3805 receiver with the a higher end denon dvd player but i don't know which one yet.

as for the speakers i have to diagree with going for Klipsch. I recently was looking for a pair of floor speakers for my living room and did quite a bit of reaserch. The best sounding speakers for the price are Monitor Audio's. they are hand built in England, and are just amazing. As the floor spearkers go, if you are on a budget go with the Bronze model. They are around the same price as the Klipsch, but there is no comparison to be made. When i went to bust buy to listen to the Klipsch, they person trying to sell the speakers never even heard of monitor audio.

Yes, stay away from "in a box" surround sounds. I think the best for your money would be Energy's speakers which rival klipsch and B&W. They are great speakers.

for 699 bucks I am perfectly willing to take a shot with a high end Sony system...Sony hasnt failed me in 20 years, dont think they will start now. Its just like the alienware vs. Dell argument, one is a simple bang for the buck, the other is fancier but with arguably better performance.

What kind of TV do you have. Trust me, you will want to get an upscaling unit if you have a widescreen DLP, LCD, LCOS, or plasma.

Here is a Sony (DVP-NS975V):

I still would get upscaling if you want a decent picture.

not worth it, which is why Im gonna go with a 699 sony system, I dont use it enough to justify the price. I spend more time with softball and at the gym and on the computer than in front of the box.
