I'm taking the plunge, finally! (Asus Z71V) - Page 8

So who calls being the first to give this bad boy a review for the good of any undecide? I have to decline since my camera won't be able to do it justice.

I do! I do!

I think you, me, and PClover are the only ones on these boards that have actually purchased it as of yet. (If more, please tell!)

So it depends who gets it first... I have ground shipping to Canada, so it may take a little longer. But don't worry, I'll take pictures of everything (I'll even try to get the UPS guy to hold the box with a big smile on his face ). And I'll do a nice long written reveiw

Any docking option for this bad boy? And to those who have had an external monitor/kybd/mouse is a docking station really necessary or just a nice convenience? Until I see some comparisons between this and the TM8104 I think the docking option may be the only thing seperating the two?

Thanks

Major Differences:

o Acer 8104 has the ATi x700 while the Asus Z71v has the nVidia 6600
o Asus Z71v is slightly thinner and slightly heavier
o Acer 8104 has the docking station

Sounds great B, I really need to get a better camera....

wouldn't a docking station only be really useful for propping up the screen at a better height/angle? Also for power and such?

I don't think I'd get a dock just because once I get the second battery there should be no reason to run on anything but battery 90% of the time (except at LANs) there was some nifty thing on a place called griffon technology that was neat. Granted, it was a mac accessory site but the little laptop stand they had was neat.

Not really... theres more. There are lots of extra ports on docks. Like there may be another parallel, another serial, some more USB, a DVI port, etc... stuff that isn't necesary on a notebook, but is nice to have to some people.

Yeah, I like having a dock, personally. In the case of my current laptop, it gives me 3 extra USB2 ports, a firewire port, VGA+DVI, SPDIF, VIVO, in addition to some slots where I can plug in extra hard drives, etc.

Yeah, I ordered this baby Thursday. I can't wait to get it. The suspense is killing me. I just wish it had built in blue tooth. Oh well, I have a USB blue tooth adapter.

If you take a look at the other thread (Z71V specs) the time line shows that I ordered before you. But that doesn't really matter.

I have been following this thread with great interest and I am SERIOUSLY considering making the move on a Z71V. Does anyone know for sure what the case/chassis is like. Is it similar to the M6? Plastic like my Dell? I need that final nudge...!

Oh...(edit) any thoughts on re-seller?

Looks like ASUS has the utility/drivers page up. I am downloading the manual now and will read it in 16 seconds.

I just read the manual... damn! That is one perfect notebook! All the major ports are on the back, with only the optical drive on the right. So no messy wires ! And it has the no-power-on cd-player... and the sexy Power On button... I'm so anxious to get it

I found some good pictures of the Z71A (same chassis as the Z71V). Subtle Spectre, I hope this will help.
