I'm taking the plunge, finally! (Asus Z71V) - Page 11

I too will likely be jumping on the Z71V band wagon, and asked this question:

Hi, I am planning on getting an Asus Z71V in a week or so, and was wondering
what the carrying case was like? Messenger bag, sleeve, traditional
business case? I ask because depending on the case it might save me the
trouble of buying a sleeve/messenger bag.

To which I received a quick reply from Gwen:

It's a traditional business bag. Pockets for components a few pockets for
other stuff, but overall, generic.

So to those who wondered, now you know. Definetly have to give props to Gwen and Rich for quick, friendly, professional attitudes.

Quite the pessimist, aren't we? There can be no problems! We demand perfection!!!

...just kidding. For a look at some of the bios issues that have arisen so far, type in Z71A or Z71V into the FAQ database at Asus.com I don't see any major problems as of yet.

well, there is at least one entry about it in the Asus FAQ section, so somebody had to ask it. Maybe it was a system tester?
The system is out in Asia. I got my info from a chatting with ISTNC.
That makes sense. The kind folks at Integrated System Tech have come through again!
When does IST expect to get their shipments? Anxiously waiting for initial reviews!
IST and ProPortable should both get shipments next week, the third week of March (14th-21st)

How does the "PCI Express Nvidia 6600-128MB" compare to a "ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB 8x AGP" ?

This is what holds me back from ordering this. Is it faster? MUCH faster? Benchmarks anywhere?

thx
As I recall... The ATi Mobility Radeon 9700 has roughly the same performance as the ATi x600. A step above that (approximately twice the framerates) are ATi's x700 and Nvidia's 6600. Unfortunately, nobody's done an actual head-to-head comparison between the x700 and the 6600, but the 6600 is DEFINITELY faster/better than the ATi 9700, and I believe it's cheaper, too!

My dad just bought a Quanta made computer. The specs are here:

http://www.bmobile.dk/index.php?opti...d=25&Itemid=45

I ran 3dmark03 on it, latest release, standard free settings and it scored 5384 - 5396.

The computer is with a 1.7 GHz processer and 1024 MB 533DDR2 ram.

It is faster than the Radeon 9700. Dont know if its on pair with the X700 because all the test it could find with the X700 is with a more powerfull processor.

its weird that PROPORTABLE isn't being competitive with ISTNC with their prices. Looks like ISTNC is getting all the business and Proportable is being left in the dust.

i posted this on the bottom of page 9
it gives a rough idea of the performance

Also, again, it WOULD BE nice to see a post by rick from IST about which 6600 go core is in the Asus

-------------from pg9-------------
OK here we GOOO

i did some searching on google (man's best friend)
and here are some info and scores on the 6600 go and there is one link to x700 scores which have some 6800 and x800 scores as well for comparison.

info on 6600 and 6800:
http://www.bit-tech.net/feature/75/
link above also talks about nvidia MXM which is very interesting

http://www.hexus.net/content/review...mlld19JRD05OTg=

some scores on the 6600:
http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-x-1485-x-x-x

x700 scores (3dmark05 w/ other tests) also has 6800 and x800 scores:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2...,1752368,00.asp

looks like the 6600go comes in a couple different flavors
since rick from istnc has a eval unit, it would be nice to post the core/mem clock speeds if you can

very nice lookin laptop.. if you ever do a review of it, please make a mention here.

the only thing i DISLIKE is the WXGA screen.. wish it was WSXGA.
the thing i LIKE about that laptop over the Asus is the addition of the scroll touchpad.
I also LIKE the closing/opening hatch. It has 2 metal peices instead of one, coming from the center facing each other, meaning you dont slide the tab to open it. Probably opens by pressing on it like the apple powerbooks.

btw, how much did he pay for it?

SXM, ProPortable is getting their business from being currently the only North American Asus vendor with the V6v. I don't think they're losing any sleep over their lack of Z71v sales. Of course, people on this forum do not make up a majority of notebook computer buyers, either, so ProPortable could be doing quite well. Geared2Play also has a thread where at least 5 people have said they want a Z71v as soon as it is released. I think it's popular all over.

I believe proportable is compensating in other areas. They have been advertising all their laptops uses Corsair memory by defaults. All of their custom notebook comes with a standard 2 years warranty, etc.

I noticed that some places come with standard 1 years for Asus and charges extra for additional year. Plus extra memory if it happens to be Corsair, etc.

I live Denmark so its difficult to say because the notebooks in Denmark (Europe) are generally more expensive compared to the US. For instance the Acer 8104, Dell 9300 is about 1000 - 1300 dollars more in Denmark. But he paid 11500 danish kroner, with is about 2000 dollars.

I just got an email from gwen at istnc and yonah will be incompatible with the z71v. Although asus originally anounced the z71v would support yonah, they've apparently changed their minds.
