They will ship between March 14th (just 2 days away!!!!!) and the 21st. When the companies get them from Asus, they'll customize them according to each customer's order and send them out ASAP.

This is what they told me in an e-mail.
"Confirmed to land in CA on 3/14...then we have to wait for customs...from
there they are built and sent based on order and payment date."

That is frickin sweet... I'm guessing they would ship within a week, and then I would probably recieve it... another week I guess? Anyone know how long it would take to ground ship to Toronto (Canada)?

Oh nice I just found that UPS time and cost thingy. Using my address and all the info, it says it will arrive guaranteed by the 28th. So seven days ground shipping to Canada aint too shabby.

after reading all these posts, I feel like I want to get this lappy too now! but just one question: should I spring for one of those extra battery options? all of you seem like experts, so do you guys actually use that extra battery in the drive bay or the extra main battery? and yes... if you're all wondering, I am a laptop newb --planning on getting one for college next year!!!

Well, I chose to get the additional main battery. I was definently going to get an extra battery, be it main one or the optical drive bay battery. I chose the main battery because A) It offers more battery life in total, and B) The optical bay battery completely stops you from watching a DVD (if its not on your hard drive).

Or get both batteries

That too

Of course having two main batteries would mean switching them out to keep watching a movie series or whatever. I'm sure he thought of that though. In any case, if you have the money and want some extra batteries lying around sure get all three, 2 primary and 1 optical. If I end up going this route I'd probably go 1 primary and 1 optical and figure carrying the optical drive when I may need it is less than 2 primary batteries. But that's just how I'm figuring it, and of course I wanna wait on reviews to see if the battery life is really close to what they say doing real things on the computer.

This will be my first laptop so I went with 2 batteries just incase I want to take it on a trip or something. I really don't know how much I'll need the second one, but it will be nice to have if I ever need it.
If you are figuring on going on a trip with it, then stop buy Best Buy or your local Electronics store and get an auto DC-DC adapter with all the fittings on the ends. Cheaper than if you buy through the company your buying the laptop from.
Yeah I want to see some benchmarks and I may get this one
post #236 of 786
Do you guys think it would be too much of a hassle to charge two main batteries? and if i decided to get the battery for the expansion bay, does that charge at the same time the main is charging, or what?

i'll probably get some answers when some of you guys actually post reviews... but just wondering for now
post #237 of 786
My best guesses: Too much of a hassle? no. Just charge, change batteries, charge again. All it takes is time. Additional battery charges at the same time? I don't know why it wouldn't.

I used to chare three different main laptops for my old Toshiba, and I didn't find it a hassle at all. It's just a quick swap - you don't even have to turn off the power. As for the two batteries at once, as Rob said, I see no reason why they would'nt charge at the same time.

For those of you that have not heard, the Z71V WILL NOT support the Yonah processor, despite ASUS posting the unit supporting the Yonah. The Yonah processor will only be supported under the 945/955 chipset, not the 915 chipset.
Also, to clarify something mentioned earlier in this thread, Corsair is not a better memory than what we use. Corsair, like Kingston and Crucial, is a 3rd party memory manufacturer. Anotherwords, they purchase memory from multiple memory manufacturers and places them on boards. I am not implying that it is a lesssor quality memory, but its certainly not a better quality memory. All of our memory used is Samsung or Infeneon originals, which means, the memory modules and boards are manufactured by that company. Samsung and Infeneon originals cost more than Corsair, but we have less than a 1% failure rate on memory, because of this, we use original modules only.

While I agree with that, in past life experiences with memory testing, majority of the memory failure usually result in bad memory board, not memory chip. Corsair and Kingston both make pretty solid memory board. The chipset they use in bulk quality are Samsung and Microns.

Crucial is not a 3rd part memory manufacturer. They are a sub-division of Micron Technology which makes the chipset as well. The chip are label as MTI or something like that (can't remember been awhile). So in actualality they are similar to Samsung and Infeoneon which makes both the memory and the board.

Samsung makes pretty solid memory, but their board (at least 3 years ago) needs a bit improvement on. The RMA rates on them were higher than of Corsair and Kingston.

Another popular memory manufacturer is LGS (Lucky Goldstar), which makes pretty decent memory chip as well. Much better quality than Infeneon before.
